What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Personally, I am a very curious person, so I derive most enjoyment when I successfully help people understand new concepts and solve problems. It's rewarding to see someone progress and gain confidence in their own abilities. Each student is different; hence, each present a new and unique challenge — the process of finding an explanation each student would best understand is very fulfilling to me. Again, since I consider myself to be a curious person, I think another perk would be that it is also a great way to keep learning and stay sharp on a wide range of topics.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I pride myself on my ability to understand things relatively quickly, both socially and academically. As a tutor, I would be able to apply these skills to the job, and personalise my teaching style to fit each student's unique learning style and needs. My strong interpersonal skills also helps me build strong relationships with my students, making sessions more enjoyable. As such, I will be able to better motivate them to achieve their academic goals, and more importantly deepen their commitments to learning.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
As someone who grew up with a lot of questions in a very square-minded tuition culture, I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be there for them to help fill in their knowledge gaps for them, should there be any. I am a firm believer that the ability to understand what is applied and to be able to apply what is understood is the key to success.
It is also important to just be there for them in general. Academia can be competitive and hence, stifling. As such, it is important that tutors provide students with a positive and supportive learning environment.
