What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Whilst I don't have any previous experience in tutoring, reflecting on the times I was in tutoring, I found the most enjoyable aspect to be the relationships formed with peers and the tutor. It was reassuring how despite in school I found it difficult to rely on peers and even teacher for help, tutoring, because of the supported learning environment it provided, was something I could depend on if I was struggling with my studies.My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I believe I have a fairly good understanding of the mathematic and chemistry syllabus but I think my strengths as a tutor lie more into my patience and empathy. I don't have a unique high school academic or social experience and I believe that strengthens me as a tutor as I would be able to understand, to some extent, the position a student is in. I believe the empathy I am able to experience for a student would help me to work well with them as I would, hopefully, be seen by them as someone who is non-judgemental, understandable and someone who could genuinely help them in their struggles.Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe being able to provide a dependable and welcoming support system for a student is one of the most important things a tutor should do. Based on personal experience, I struggled with finding and being willing to approach teachers at school for help and support with studies. However, it was because I was able to turn to my tutors, who I found to be incredibly welcoming and supporting, that I was actually able to perform well in school even without significant help from my school teachers. Coordinate transformations with dilations needs some more work, as she seems to not fully grasp the connection between scaling and multiplying. I gave her a sample paper to try just to see how well she is remembering her previous topics - this will be telling of whether she is continually practicing/remembering all the content she is being taught, and this is important for her upcoming trials and hsc.

While at the start she did not remember what we did, she recalled after a few questions, horizontal and vertical translations. She did quite well with graphing and understanding the basis of vertical dilations.
She needs to remember to include all the important features of graphs, particularly asymptotes, without me having to remind her. Needs some more work with dealing with how coordinates change with transformations.

She understood vertical and horizontal translations very well in both algebraic and even graphical problems. She could recall the different types of graphs from the equations very well and could also remember the shapes of the graphs.
For harder types of graphs such as logarithms, square roots and other polynomials she had some challenges with sketching and identifying the equations. This is something to be worked on. She also needs work on factorisation, understanding terminology - roots, multiplicity, sketching even and odd powers etc - and approaching graphs that she might not recognise the shape of immediately.

She did very well with discrete probability - she could understand what the questions were asking from her very well and even completed the assessment paper section for this topic in a very good timeframe. I only ever had to explain minimally for some questions that she had never seen before.
She had challenges with some of the series and sequences questions. She did reasonably well in the topic test especially when I guided her through some of the questions she hadn’t seen before. However she seems to struggle quite a lot with understanding when it is applicable to use the term equation or the sum equation. Additionally, logarithm and quadratic skills need some work as when questions required her use of these, she struggled.
