What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I enjoy most about tutoring is seeing a student move from feeling unsure to feeling confident. As someone who has recently completed Year 12 at John Monash Science School, I understand how overwhelming certain subjects can feel, and I love being able to break things down in a way that finally “clicks†for someone. I really enjoy creating a calm, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions without judgement. Watching their progress, even small steps, is genuinely rewarding for me, and it’s the part of tutoring that motivates me the most.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

My biggest strengths as a tutor are my patience, clarity, and ability to relate to students. Having studied a wide range of VCE subjects, I’m able to explain concepts in different ways until the student finds the one that makes sense to them. I’m also very organised and reliable, which helps me structure lessons that actually support the student’s goals rather than just going through content. Another strength is that I’ve been in the same position as many of the students I could be tutoring, so I understand the pressure, the exam timelines, and the feeling of falling behind. Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is create a space where the student feels supported, understood, and genuinely confident in their ability to learn. Good tutoring isn’t just about explaining content, it’s about helping the student feel comfortable enough to ask questions, make mistakes, and work through challenges without feeling judged. A tutor should also be able to adapt to the student’s learning style. Every student is different, so taking the time to understand how they learn, what they struggle with, and what motivates them makes a huge difference. From my own experience

About Thenila

Confident Young Role Model with Recent School Experience

Thenila is a recent high school graduate who understands exactly what primary and secondary students are going through right now. She has served on her school leadership team and as a wellbeing advocate, giving her first-hand experience listening to students, supporting their needs, and communicating clearly with teachers and peers. This tutor brings that same maturity and empathy into tutoring sessions, helping students feel heard, comfortable, and confident while they work through challenging Maths and English concepts.

Hands-On Experience Working with Children

Through her role as a childcare assistant, Thenila has spent extensive time supporting young children in learning and play-based environments. She has helped with routines, guided group activities, and practised calm, patient behaviour management. This background means she is used to explaining things step-by-step, keeping children engaged, and adjusting her approach for different ages and personalities. Parents can be reassured that she understands how to connect with younger learners and make sessions feel safe and encouraging.

Organised, Reliable and Easy to Work With

This tutor is known for being organised, punctual, and proactive, qualities that are essential for consistent academic progress. Her experience balancing leadership roles, wellbeing initiatives, and study has strengthened her time management and planning skills. In tutoring, she uses these strengths to prepare focused sessions, track what a student has already covered, and set small, achievable goals. She works closely with families to understand each child’s needs, aiming to build not only skills in Maths and English but also confidence and independence.
