The skill of empathy towards a student is possibly one of the most important things a tutor should be equipped with, in that they need to recognise that while you're an expert on the material, the student is learning it for the first time. Thus, tutors like myself need to be able to present concepts that the student can understand, i.e., using metaphors that utilise the student's hobbies and interests.
