Olivia was able to write out her words as required for her homework. She also was good with her oral assignment practice, she was confident with her reading and expression. While Olivia was doing her words, I did a character drawing of her and then later she of me. I'm happy with her progressing with her work, she is always eager to do her work and try even if she is not sure.
The only thing she may need to practice is her English words in the way of spelling them out a few times to get familiar with them. We ran out of time to spell. I did print out some sheets for us to do next visit if time and homework is suitably done.

As we had done this assessment a few weeks back (on our first lesson) It was good to see if she had improved to what she knew/not knew to where we are now. So she had forgotten what a pyramid and a prism was ( as she didn't know the first time, but I taught her what they were) Since doing it the last few weeks she now recognises the column math in questions 3 and 4. Last time she just wrote a number that consisted of random numbers from the sum. aEg 56 + 23 = 79 but she wrote 5623 as the answer. She did the fill the gaps in correctly. ( 3 times table) Last time she didn't know what a quarter or half was, she worked out the ratios this time. Last time she couldn't fill out the clock time of 8:30, this time she first did 8.00 and then after asking her if it was right, she worked out that half past 8 or 8.30 needed to be an adjustment. So after that she got it right.
Olivia needed help with the two shapes: pyramid and Prism. Mostly a practice thing to get it, no big issue. She does seems to count whatever the numbers start off to be eg. 3 times table of:- 3,6,9,12 then she starts saying 13,14,15, 16. It is like she gets too excited and runs away with a pattern of numbers even if it was not required at the start. Mostly an issue with concentration and focusing on the question than the ability to count in a required format. Might be a good idea to start to teach deep breathing to focus and take our time with answers. We got up to q10. about the computer game sum. Olivia is not familiar with the sum system of borrowing yet ( eg carrying a number over 9)So we looked at that together. She didn't understand how to flip the moon shape ( turn the shape to the opposite side). eg < to > Also she was not sure at first how to turn the arrow a quarter clockwise. So it is a matter of practicing more the ideas of a half, a quarter and three quarter ratios/fraction pictures and numbers etc. Eg: 1/4 1/2 and what they look like. We will finish the assessment next time for math and then go on to do the English. Once again she is a pleasure to tutor, she is full of creative speech and ideas, she is also eager to try to carry out an exercise or sum even if she isnt sure she is right. She always has a go.

Olivia was successful in remembering her 3 times table. And with practice mostly got the 4's right. We will keep at these next time. She also was good with the shapes which she was able to distinguish what a 2D and a 3D shape consisted of.
She did 10 of the adding with picture sums. It took 4 sums in for her to realise she could use her times table, which I thought wasn't a bad thing, cos she clicked oh I can bundle these pictures into groups to add up in the sum. She preferred using counting by 2's which I was fine with as she got that this would help her count quicker and she used her fingers tonight also to help her. We will continue to finish this page (8 more sums) next time. This work sheet is Year 1 but I plan to work through year 1 work to move to year 2 to see what she needs help with/ whats missing in her understanding of where she should be.

3rd lesson and I'm beginning to see a pattern in her learning. Even when she is talking or doing something she is still listening and taking it in. She is one of those kids who surprisingly can do 2 things at once, the only thing is she will have to discipline herself in focusing on the more important thing at hand. She was able to identify most of the shapes I showed her, just the pentagon, oval and cylinder shape she didn't know so we will practice touching on those lightly next time. We did 2 digit adding to 1 digit with columns, she did this well. I could tell doing her homework with her dad she understood it and was able to do the sums going down in the column. Eg 70 + 5 ------- 75 ------- I said 5 plus 0, she did the answer right, I said ok so put the 5 down, but the 7 wants to come down to talk to the 5 = 75 she cheekily kept saying what i did initially told her to carry down the number :this number wants to drop down to chat to this number lol So she got it. We only did 4 of the 20 sums but she did them correctly and we will continue next lesson. She is always such a happy girl. Shes a pleasure to tutor.
Traffic light sums she struggled a bit but i felt maybe that was more to do with us nearing the end of the lesson and she was starting to get tired. The addition sentences eg 1 + ? = 4 find the missing number and next to the sentence it had four circles, to help the student colour in and count to answer. I think the math sentence and the circles confused her. We will practice more on this but when she did the sum without the circles she did better.
