The most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is to instil the key executive study skills that are used in the sessions that serve the student well and ensure they apply them all the time. These skills I hope to cement include organisation, focus and time management. I also believe it is important to form a connection with the…

The most important aspect of tutoring is making learning enjoyable! I achieve this though understanding unique learning patterns and teaching specific effective study habits and processes which reduce the stresses and anxiety which are all too commonly associated with exams and assignment deadlines. Once developed, these skills are applicable well…

We are really happy with Nick. He communicates exceptionally well with our son Kye, and teaches to a point where Kye fully understands what's being said.

Inside Varsity LakesTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Noah focused on positive and negative integers using number lines, as well as developing confidence with ratios and rates.

In Year 9, Mia practised solving linear equations and tackled inequalities through targeted workbook questions to strengthen her algebra skills.

For Year 12, Ethan revised differentiation of trigonometric functions—specifically sine and cosine—and applied these rules to graphing exponential and logarithmic functions in preparation for his upcoming exam.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student tackling algebra with fractions and exponents often rushed into questions, which led to overlooked steps and recurring errors—"he jumped straight in before checking what the question was really asking."

In senior maths, one student repeatedly relied on calculators for multi-step sequences instead of practicing manual methods, making it harder to spot sign mistakes during differentiation.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner avoided completing assigned homework tasks, missing out on crucial practice with "more than" or "bigger than" concepts.

For a Year 10 English assignment, skipping over key sections of the novel left gaps when analysing themes.

Recent Achievements

One Varsity Lakes tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to ask questions now openly seeks clarification when working through challenging algebraic processes, making each session more interactive.

Another high school student showed a shift in their English work—where they once gave only surface-level responses, they're now expanding on ideas and attempting more detailed analysis in essays.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who had struggled with negative numbers was able to use number lines independently to solve addition and subtraction problems, staying focused for the whole lesson and tackling new examples without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Finn is responding well to Anthony's tutoring, thank you. Anthony is kind, knowledgeable and has a lovely manner. Finn is feeling more confident and we will be continuing with Anthony's weekly tutorials.

We are so happy and impressed with Pariese. She has already made a great rapport with Charlie, which was our initial concern. She is both both professional and engaging with an obvious passion for maths. She has given us feedback relating to Charlie's learning style and is active in finding strategies to suit him. The fact that he looks forward to his lesson, is a testament in itself. She is always punctual and happy to have a brief at the end of each session. I have spoken to Pariese about Charlie needing long term tutoring, to which she agreed.

Everything seems to be progressing well, Trai is asking questions which is good, he is quite happy to have the lessons I know its early days so we will wait and see
