Keeping them interested in the subject, making them believe that it's not just about marks, but understanding. Making them to fall in love with the subject. Doing that subject should make them feel happy, not anxious. I focus more on logic and intuition, rather than memorizing. Being someone who used to fail regularly before becoming one of the…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, adapt to their individual learning style, and create a safe space where they feel comfortable asking questions. A tutor should not only help the student understand the subject, but also teach them how to think independently and approach challenges with…

Helping a student visualize the portions they learn would be the best thing a tutor can do for a student. If a student is able to visualize a portion, the student will be able to learn the concept and use it to apply in various applications. Making a student fall in love with what they learn is the most important thing, as I experienced the same…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand them. Learning new things can be overwhelming and thus remembering that your students are trying to grasp new knowledge every second is often overlooked. The best thing a tutor can provide their student is to give them the guidance and inspiration so as to spark a curiosity to want to learn more about the subject without any external guidance. For me, as a student, what I sought from my tutor was discovering how I learn best, rather than adhering to a one-size-fits-all approach. I also valued having someone with whom I could freely share my thoughts without fear of judgment, essentially a friend. Finding the right method to educate a student. The way you present your working and explanation should always suit the students learning style. Tutors have two roles, One is to actively support the student who might be struggling to cope up with their peers and/or looking to improve their performance. The second is to make the student learn in a different environment from their school. Schools have multiple children and every child has some issue they are facing. As a tutor sitting 1-1…

Personally, I believe that students come to tutors for a reason: commitment. Even though I am not an official school teacher, I try to make sure that students walk out of the tutoring session with a reasonable understanding of a particular topic, despite the fact that they might have learned about it at school already. I think it is necessary that…

A tutor is more than just one that imparts knowledge. Any textbook, podcast or Youtube Video can do that. The power of a good tutor is in his or her ability to strengthen and encourage their students, so helping them gain some momentum to keep persevering in subjects that are challenging them. This means patiently helping the students understand…

Wanted to take this opportunity to say how great Jeremy is! My daughter was incredibly nervous about having a male tutor but after the first session and moving forward, she feels completely comfortable, at ease and really enjoys her tutoring sessions with Jeremy. He has a very positive attitude and is very kind and encouraging towards Maycee's learning journey and for that we thank you all.... especially Jeremy!

Inside Victoria ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ava revised Pythagoras' Theorem and practised solving right-angled triangle problems, then worked through trigonometry questions involving missing side lengths.

For Year 10, Jack focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions as well as identifying transformations of functions using DESMOS.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Mia completed calculus work on optimisation problems and reviewed biology concepts like magnification and population density, making use of diagrams for visual understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often attempted to solve algebra and functions questions mentally, saying, "I can do this in my head," but skipped writing steps led to sign errors and confusion when rearranging equations.

In Year 12 Chemistry, a lack of thorough notes before assessments made it hard to recall details under pressure; as one tutor noted, incomplete plans "meant she had to memorise last-minute."

A Year 4 learner's messy written work in fractions obscured mistakes until feedback was given. In these moments, missed working or disorganised notes cost valuable marks and slowed improvement despite strong effort.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Victoria Park noticed one high school student who previously struggled with chemistry problem-solving now sets out her plans clearly and completes simple identification tasks almost entirely on her own.

Another win came from a Year 11 student who, after several attempts, managed to get the structural formula right—showing real persistence compared to his earlier hesitation with complex diagrams.

In a younger session, Scarlett used to rush through subtraction but now backchecks each answer aloud and finishes her homework with little need for guidance, recently getting every worksheet question correct without assistance.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Victoria Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ursula Frayne Catholic College.
