Instead, I remind them that mistakes are part of the journey and offer valuable lessons. Patience with students, as well as the ability to research if there is something abstract that they have difficulties…

The most important thing a tutor can do is support their student and give them the patience and understanding that learning is a difficult process and can take a long time. It is crucial to respect students and never put them down for their ability as everyone has the potential to learn many things at their own pace and in their own ways. I have a…

Not give the answers but help support the learning process and give guidance when the child needs it most. There is a difference between doing all the work for the child and actually teaching how the problem can be approached and observing how the student does it him/herself. If the child is stuck on a concept, it is my responsibility to help the…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen to what they are asking, and targeting their weak areas within the prospective subject. By doing so the tutor should aim to tailor each lesson accordingly. I think my strengths as a tutor would be my perseverance, clarity when explaining concepts, the ability to identify a…

The most important thing is to make sure that the student has completely understood the concept. It is useless to move forward if they don't understand the basics. The most crucial role of a tutor is to simplify and engage with the content. Since students are already learning the material in school but struggling to grasp it, it is essential to use a different strategy. By making the content simpler and more engaging, the tutor can help the student to not only understand the material but to also apply it in…

The tutor must help the student improve in the subject they are teaching. I believe that boosts a student's confidence in the school environment as they are receiving additional help from outside. All of these effects will result in better grades for a student, once again fostering more confidence, and cycling back to better grades. I…

One important thing a tutor can do is clearly understand what a student wants with their tutor. For example, if a student already know concepts really well, a tutor should be able to identify this and spend more time on areas where a student may struggle. Furthermore, it is important to consider the student first and foremost. A tutor should be…

The most important thing a tutor can do for the student is to believe in them and show encouragement. Inside Voyager PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Lara worked through right-angled trigonometry and bearings, applying diagrams to visualise angle problems.

For Year 8, Ethan practised factorising algebraic fractions and also tackled multiplying and dividing fractions in context.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Michael focused on negative integers—adding, subtracting, and multiplying them—and reviewed strategies for exam-style questions involving these concepts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student working on algebra was observed hesitating before writing answers, often second-guessing herself even when the process was correct; "she needs to be more confident in her calculations," one note read.

In Year 4 maths, there were repeated instances of confusing times tables and forgetting to add a zero in multiplication, causing her to pause mid-problem and check with the tutor for reassurance.

When tackling negative integers in Year 9, confusion set in after -15, slowing progress and increasing uncertainty.

These moments led to lost momentum during lessons and reliance on immediate feedback rather than independent practice.

Recent Achievements

One Voyager Point tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to wait for correction now spotting her own mistakes and trying extra questions without prompting, especially in algebra.

Another high school learner is getting quicker at identifying when to use formulas for similar triangles, and has started explaining his reasoning out loud—something he avoided before.

With a Year 4 student, there's been real progress memorising times tables; she now attempts the 7s and 8s by herself after struggling with recall last term, and last session completed all the division sums independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Panania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holsworthy Public School.
