With my previous experience both as being a tutor and being tutored by someone else, I believe a tutor should pay a fundamental role in empowering students to take ownership of their learning. Beyond improving marks academically, it’s vital that a tutor can help develop their student’s confidence, motivation and learn study and time management…

I've always said that a good teacher will help a student understand the work. A very good tutor will help a student find it within themselves to do the work. But i view myself as a great tutor, one that can do all of that, while actually inspiring the students. Im very patient, very organized, well spoken and persistent. Im a very hard worker, and…

I believe that all providers of education should not only prepare a student for an exam, but to open the student's eyes to the wider world, where they can explore their passions. In this way, I consider confidence an important aspect that a tutor can provide to a student. School can sometimes feel so impossible, when sitting in a large classroom…

I believe the most important thing is to help and guide students through the HSC period, and their choices after the HSC. My strength would be that I can understand what the students feel because I have been enroled into many different tutoring centers. My weakness is that I am a quiet person and I don't talk a lot unless it is with close friends,…

I believe that a tutor cannot elevate a student's competency into a whole new level but they themselves do. Therefore, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them recognise their potential and become more passionate about studying through personalised lessons, through which they can become engaged and self-develop their…

Having faced challenges in Science during my high school, I am aware of the problems students face in understanding complex mathematical concepts. My method is to build a strong relationship with the student. The student should not take me as a teacher but more like a friend or brother whom the student can confide in. They should discuss their…

Although high results is a must, tutors should also respect or accept what students may want to gain out of their HSC marks. Just being a support for the student in question. Being able to tutor is a small part of the process. A tutor must be able to become a mentor to the student and completely help out in the challenges and obstacles that the student may face. Inside Voyager PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Lara worked through right-angled trigonometry and bearings, applying diagrams to visualise angle problems.

For Year 8, Ethan practised factorising algebraic fractions and also tackled multiplying and dividing fractions in context.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Michael focused on negative integers—adding, subtracting, and multiplying them—and reviewed strategies for exam-style questions involving these concepts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student working on algebra was observed hesitating before writing answers, often second-guessing herself even when the process was correct; "she needs to be more confident in her calculations," one note read.

In Year 4 maths, there were repeated instances of confusing times tables and forgetting to add a zero in multiplication, causing her to pause mid-problem and check with the tutor for reassurance.

When tackling negative integers in Year 9, confusion set in after -15, slowing progress and increasing uncertainty.

These moments led to lost momentum during lessons and reliance on immediate feedback rather than independent practice.

Recent Achievements

One Voyager Point tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to wait for correction now spotting her own mistakes and trying extra questions without prompting, especially in algebra.

Another high school learner is getting quicker at identifying when to use formulas for similar triangles, and has started explaining his reasoning out loud—something he avoided before.

With a Year 4 student, there's been real progress memorising times tables; she now attempts the 7s and 8s by herself after struggling with recall last term, and last session completed all the division sums independently.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Sam's been great for my Sam and after over a year of other tutoring which Sam hated, I can't recall one time when Sam has not wanted to do his tutoring with Sam. As a result Sam's far more engaged with Maths and has moved up a group at school for next year! Thank you for Sam's persistence and flexibility on making learning fun and exciting for my Sam!

Ben is very diligent and commited. He tutored both my daughter's who showed marked improvement. He prepared for sessions and always kept us informed of the girls progress. He is a thoughtful and considerate guy and the girls responded well to his demeanour. I would highly recommend Ben to anyone that wants a tutor to elevate their child's academic performance.

Rueben has been a great fit for Gabrielle. He is an excellent tutor and goes through the steps for the maths problems. Gabrielle feels he explains things so she can understand. Rueben is very easy to talk to and he communicates with us. He is also up with the curriculum.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Panania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holsworthy Public School.
