The most important thing a tutor could do for a student would be proactively diagnosing their student's weaknesses. Many students will have their array of weaknesses e.g. Struggling with the concepts in projectile motion. It is the role of the tutor to identify these issues and figure out a solution, usually through repetition of similar…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do is be trusted by the student and beneficially help the student with lots of positive reinforcement rather than condescendingly negatively motivating them. Within this, it is important to create a supportive environment where the student can admit they still don't understand a topic, so that the…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to be able to build a good rapport with their student, as this is beneficial in not only creating an enjoyable and ideal learning environment, but also to build a connection that can facilitate a deeper understanding about the student, how they learn, and how they study. I am extremely patient, having…

Set them on the right path. Helping them to understand concepts and develop skills (rather than just doing things for them) will mean that they can go on to use these skills themselves. This is very important for exam-taking. Communication. I ask for their input and check that they understand what I'm saying. I am patient and will explain a…

As well as being able to be conscience yet specific of the needs of the student, as mentioned before, I believe the most important skills required of a tutor is being punctual and organised. This involves having a clear lesson plan in order to make the session as efficient as possible. In addition, it is of most importance the tutor is well…

Helping them to develop their own learning style, or styles, to perform in a variety of circumstances is one of the most critical things a tutor can impart on a student. Examinations and content will never be delivered in the exact same way, so providing students with the means to navigate the ambiguities of examination and focus purely on the…

The most important things would include helping them understand what is required of them for their schoolwork but also helping them feel confident in their own abilities to complete tasks. I believe my strengths would be by ability to listen and my patience. I have worked in customer service for a long time and so I have many transferrable skills…

A tutor should provide guidance and assistance at all costs for the student they are teaching. It is the tutors responsibility to do the best they can in order to help the student reach their potential. A tutor should sometimes take a step further to care for the student and a lot of the times the student will reciprocate your effort to create a…

I find that a healthy, positive and communicative friendship with the student is crucial to them progressing. It's important to be patient and ensure you can work with all personality types and children of all ages. It's also important that tutors are prepared with teaching methods and material to help the students. They should be proactive in…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not only teach them the content, but also to teach them good study habits and revision practices that will equip them to do better in school. Inside WaitaraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Charli worked on calculating area and perimeter of rectangles, as well as revising types of angles using diagrams.

Year 10 student Angus tackled simultaneous equations and practised problems involving discounts and percentage increases.

For Year 11, Hannah focused on interpreting tax payable scenarios, then applied her understanding to questions about Medicare levies and simple interest calculations.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4 maths, one student frequently skipped writing out working for multi-step addition and subtraction, leading to missed carrying or borrowing—"she often misses adding the carried over number," noted a tutor.

In Year 7, another lost track of time during a statistics test, rushing through multiple choice without allocating enough minutes per question.

For a senior student in Year 10, difficulty reading long worded questions in financial maths meant key details were misunderstood, resulting in errors with net versus gross pay.

Confidence wavered after mistakes; at times, this caused hesitation to attempt similar problems again.

Recent Achievements

One Waitara tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student who used to skip steps in simultaneous equations but now confidently writes out each line and checks their reasoning, especially after mastering the rise/run method for gradients.

In Year 9, another student has begun underlining key parts of questions—something she previously ignored—which is helping her accurately identify what's being asked before jumping into calculations.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who once hesitated with fractions is now finishing weekly homework without help and even explains how to convert mixed fractions into decimals during sessions.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Paris has been fantastic and has assisted Charlotte bridge the gap with her maths and had a positive result on her end of year school report and we wish to thank her so very much.

We just wanted to thank Thomas Ban for the wonderful work he has done with Jasmine this year. We feel that she has received these grades due to Thomas tutoring. He has challenged and pushed her to work harder and improve her maths. He is also extremely professional and courteous.

Working for Ezy Math Tutoring has given me confidence as a maths tutor. I began without much formal experience and the CEP program was able to teach me as i tutored. The company was very helpfull and whenever I had questions about dealing with problems they suggested ways to resolve them - i was able to help many students with this support. thanks. 24th September 2011
