In the context of Science and Mathematics, the key aspect is HOW to think. Science requires imagination, innovation as well as an excellent recall and grasp of modern scientific understanding. Mathematics, being a tool - requires the students to be well-equipped with the basic mathematical tools. To directly answer this question; a tutor must…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is be supportive. Students are already frustrated when they do not understand something, hence we do not need to add to that by being frustrated at them. In addition, a tutor needs to be flexible. This allows one to better tailor the program to the student's needs and the student's strengths. I…

The most important thing that I can do as a tutor would be to make sure the kid understands everything that I teach. Each kid is different. Finding the right teaching style for that kid and teaching as such will make the kid more involved into the subject and makes learning fun. I am a very good observer and an active listener. I make sure I tend…

A tutor can guide a student to succeed. Not only in studies, but life in general. If tutors can make students aware of certain things which changes how they operate and that is the greatest thing a tutor can do. I am very patient and understanding. I think one of the most improtant things is to be a good listener and have a good understanding with your student so that he/she can freely ask questions or share any problems they are facing. Being honest with the student also plays a very important role as they can know you cant alwyas be perfect and its okay to make mistakes! I can assess the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to improve the student's attitude towards the subject. If a student is having struggles with certain subject, they may have a negative view on it which limits their openness and ability to learn. I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage and empower them. I believe most students can learn most subjects/tasks but it's just about finding the way of learning that works for them. I am positive and encouraging. To me, the most essential role a tutor can fulfill is that of an enabler and empowerer. I believe a tutor's primary goal should be to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge and a resilient problem-solving framework, not only to tackle academic challenges but also to navigate any obstacle life may present. An empowering tutor equips…

Inside WareembaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Rose practiced multiplication using the column method for two- and three-digit numbers, then started long division, reinforcing skills with games and timed worksheets.

A Year 9 student revised trigonometry and probability questions to prepare for an upcoming exam, focusing on solving right-angled triangle problems and basic chance calculations.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student worked through questions on finding the midpoint, distance, and gradient of a line given two points, applying these to graph linear relationships.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student tended to check every maths answer with me before moving on, showing hesitation despite correct work—this meant quiz time was spent seeking reassurance instead of practicing independently.

In Year 10, a missed assignment detail wasn't shared during sessions; as the tutor noted, "he would have benefitted from input," but did it alone and missed out on targeted feedback.

A senior student struggled with exam time management, having to rush sections after underestimating how long tasks like financial maths would take. The stress lingered as she recounted feeling pressed for time after the session ended.

Recent Achievements

One Wareemba tutoring session saw a Year 11 student move from relying on memorised rules to confidently breaking down differentiation problems step by step, even cross-checking with earlier concepts like Pythagoras when needed.

In Year 9 English, a student who used to struggle with essay structure is now independently using the P.E.E. format and can clearly explain her reasoning for each point.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who often rushed through addition tasks surprised her tutor this week by pausing to double-check answers—spotting and fixing her own errors before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Five Dock Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Abbotsford Public School.
