I consider being empathetic and adaptive for students is highly important. Being empathetic of your students struggles and not putting them down for not understanding is the most important thing a tutor can do for them to ensure they feel comfortable and confident in their learning. Adaptability is also a key component for a tutor as not every…

The tutor must understand the student. Some students try really hard to learn but may fail to show successful results. The tutor must understand this, assure the student that he/she is making progress, and guide the student every inch of the way. Second, the tutor must consider the pursuits of the students as his/her own personal endeavor as…

I believe that a tutor can help a student to become more confident, open minded and motivated when it comes to their subject of choice and also helping them being able to be flexible when it comes to their approaches to problems and also showing them shorter, easier and more efficient ways to solve the same problem (without cutting corners). But…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help the student understand a topic. This may sound intuitive however it is often majorly overlooked and replaced with acceptance or shear memorisation for the student. What I want is for my students is a true understanding of the subject, giving them the tools of learning so that they can…

I believe that the biggest thing a tutor can do for a student is help them enjoy learning new content because they understand it, rather than becoming frustrated with the subject because they can't seem to get the hang of it. Achieving good marks in school ultimately increases students confidence and I hope that I will be able to do this for any…

The most important things a tutor can do is the influential power it holds in students' minds. A good tutor could enable a student to turn their fears into their strengths. I would be both a great tutor and mentor as I believe I have a mind of curiosity and would do my best in achieving goals that I set. I am an empathetic person so I would listen…

Being patient, empathetic, friendly and engaging, all serve to enhance the experience and learning of the student. I believe these all should be applied as equally important. A tutor should have good listening skills so that they will better understand students' misconceptions and struggles. It is important to treat each student and how you go about emphasising the content to the students uniquely. A good tutor should aim to be relatable and open to share own experiences with learning and highlight that it isn't an…

They can get the student to engage with the subject so they can apply themselves to the subject even outside the sessions. Also, having a tutor to selectively fill in gaps in your knowledge is really helpful when studying for a subject. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to believe in them and remind them of their potential. I think it is very important as a tutor to start a topic from its basic and build a strong idea of the subject material so that the student enjoys studying. That is going to boost up the student's confidence on the subject. I can not stress enough about the importance of building confidence in a student. I am very patient with my students and I am…

A good tutor can boost the confidence of his/her student, can motivate the student to face problems by encouraging critical thinking. The tutor should be able to explain to the student the concept properly to the point where the student fully understands how to do different examples of a question by themselves. The most important thing a tutor can do is recognise their students ability level and mould their teaching to that level. A tutor is more than a teacher. A teachers job is to give a student a base level of understanding whereas a tutor can build on that and go further. This allows students to revisit sections that the teacher brushed over or to build on sections they seemingly understand to ensure they can answer a greater range of question types. Along with the…

Inside WareembaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Rose practiced multiplication using the column method for two- and three-digit numbers, then started long division, reinforcing skills with games and timed worksheets.

A Year 9 student revised trigonometry and probability questions to prepare for an upcoming exam, focusing on solving right-angled triangle problems and basic chance calculations.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student worked through questions on finding the midpoint, distance, and gradient of a line given two points, applying these to graph linear relationships.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student tended to check every maths answer with me before moving on, showing hesitation despite correct work—this meant quiz time was spent seeking reassurance instead of practicing independently.

In Year 10, a missed assignment detail wasn't shared during sessions; as the tutor noted, "he would have benefitted from input," but did it alone and missed out on targeted feedback.

A senior student struggled with exam time management, having to rush sections after underestimating how long tasks like financial maths would take. The stress lingered as she recounted feeling pressed for time after the session ended.

Recent Achievements

One Wareemba tutoring session saw a Year 11 student move from relying on memorised rules to confidently breaking down differentiation problems step by step, even cross-checking with earlier concepts like Pythagoras when needed.

In Year 9 English, a student who used to struggle with essay structure is now independently using the P.E.E. format and can clearly explain her reasoning for each point.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who often rushed through addition tasks surprised her tutor this week by pausing to double-check answers—spotting and fixing her own errors before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Five Dock Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Abbotsford Public School.
