The tutor can help a student to build confidence as well as help pupil in the study by making them practice on their weak points, as a teacher never judge students weakness but helps them to improve it. I believe that tutor and student relationship to be more friendly and believe that if concepts are strong of a student so they can go a long way.…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to give (or guide them to) resources, ensure they are up to date and finally 'guide' (not tell) the students through a concept or idea. My strengths as a tutor is my ability to plan my sessions and also to help students through concepts in a less textboook way. I also try and understand…

- Transparency and clarity - Patience - To teach them to succeed, not only pass. - Effort. Effort goes both ways. The tutor must be a listener and a teacher, regardless of student level. And the student must be willing to learn. Deep background in science and math. Currently as of 2023, I'm in my 4th year of Electrical and…

As tutor, the greatest impact that one can have is that of helping a student better shape and sharpen, not only their understanding of a subject but also their attitudes and philosophies towards learning. That is, to help positively reframe their perspective in a way that helps them best succeed I would say my greatest strengths as a tutor are…

To really understand where the student is coming from. Far too often throughout my own life I have been frustrated with the way in which teachers and tutors treat you as just another student and bulldoze you with an answer before you've even managed to get you question out. To be able to adapt their teaching style to better suit the student. To…

I believe that a tutor's most important job is to build a student's confidence. Most particularly when a student is struggling, building confidence allows them to feel that they can try and fail, which is essential to learning. With more advanced students, confidence allows them to stretch themselves even further. I believe I have developed a…

A tutor should always express appreciation and pride for improvements shown by the student- no matter how big or small the progress is. A tutor should also be able to point out the strengths and weaknesses of the student particularly in a respectful and encouraging way. Most importantly, building a rapport with the student is crucial so as to…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence. When they believe in themselves, they're way more likely to actually learn and succeed. Also, creating a supportive and encouraging environment is key. And of course, helping them develop good study habits that they can use long after our sessions are over is super…

Inside WatsoniaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student worked through chapter four on complex numbers and tackled vectors from chapter two, focusing on problem-solving with worked examples.

For Year 11, time was spent reviewing logs, exponents, and compound interest calculations, clarifying methods step-by-step.

A Year 6 student practised multiplying decimals using exponents and reinforced understanding of the 3x and 5x tables through targeted exercises.

Recent Challenges

Several process-related challenges emerged across different year levels.

In Year 11, a student tackling advanced algebra needs to slow down and write out each equation, as skipping steps in quadratic proofs led to hidden errors.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student struggled with work layout—her method for factorizing was hard for others to follow, making it tough to trace calculation paths.

For a Year 7 learner, not keeping diagrams bold and clear meant key features were missed when drawing geometric figures.

In upper primary, times tables revision often focused only on easier sets, so gaps remained with the 6x and 7x tables.

Recent Achievements

One Watsonia tutor recently saw a Year 12 student finally grasp de Moivre's theorem, confidently using it to multiply and divide complex numbers—something that had caused hesitation before.

In another session, a Year 10 student who used to rely on the tutor for every step with Pythagoras' Theorem is now solving problems independently and even checking their own work for errors.

Meanwhile, a younger student surprised their tutor by breaking down an irregular area question into parts without prompting, after previously struggling to start these on their own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Watsonia Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Watsonia Primary School.
