Teaching effectively so that the student can understand the content. It is important to make the students do their own work, rather than doing it for them as they do not learn effectively if the tutor does the work for them. The tutor must also commit to every class and treat every student equally with respect. - My strength are maths and…

Tutors are just not there to help students with their students. Their most important role is to be friends and be able to guide their students in the right direction. If tutors become friends, the students listen and trust them more. Of course this does not mean that students can take tutors for a ride. As a tutor I am hardworking, diligent and…

A tutor can provide the pathway of learning. The tutor should understand the position of his/her students. Being able to meet the needs of the parents and students. Every student is unique and they have goals that they wish to achieve. Although these goals may be similar, I believe a tutor must listen attentively and work towards these particular targets so they can achieve what the student desires. A tutor also has to establish a sense of trust. This…

A tutor should be there to support the student through all academic struggles they are facing and help the student reach all their academic goals. The tutor should be familiar with their students learning style and preferences, then adjust their tutoring to suit. A tutor should also create a safe environment where the student feels they can ask…

Being patient. A lot of teachers get frustrated when students do not understand concepts the way they teach them. It is important to teach every student in their own way and be patient with the teaching process. Otherwise a student's confidence and motivation to learn is harmed. I opine that understanding the IQ and how to upgrade it is the key responsibility of a mentor. It is also imperative that a tutor should be patient if a child is not understanding a question and try to explore new ways to make it clear. I am very loving and patient as I know kids take time to understand the key concepts. Non-judgemental is the key…

Inside Wentworth PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Olivia worked on strengthening narrative writing by planning story complications and using holiday experiences to create engaging recounts.

In Year 10, Marcus tackled trigonometric identities and practised graphing trig functions using the unit circle for visual understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ethan focused on differentiation techniques—including chain rule and trigonometric derivatives—and was introduced to integration of basic and trig functions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student often left drafts unsubmitted for feedback, so opportunities to refine essay arguments before deadlines were missed.

In Year 9 mathematics, work was messy and disorganised—making it hard to check steps or spot small errors, as a tutor observed.

A Year 7 learner struggled with times tables partly because practice focused only on familiar facts, leaving gaps when tackling harder multiplication questions.

Meanwhile, in senior calculus sessions, anxiety about working under time pressure led to skipped checks during integration problems, resulting in repeated mistakes and frustration at not improving despite extra effort.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Wentworth Point noticed a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to tackle tough maths problems now using problem-solving strategies independently and explaining her reasoning without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 boy—who used to rush through writing tasks—recently took time to plan out his essay structure, brainstorming ideas first before getting started.

In senior sessions, one student who struggled with u-substitution in calculus is now confidently working through those questions on her own, even checking her answers for errors before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as West Ryde Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Wentworth Point Public School.
