Maths Tutor Silverdale, NSW
A tutor should be able to make subjects understandable and enjoyable for their students so they get to learn it easier and faster. They should be able to impart knowledge in many different ways in order to have the capacity to teach people who learn in different ways. I'm really patient with people, especially children. I really enjoy being able…

I love Sarah's methods of teaching. She goes through everything step by step and makes it so much easier for me to understand.

Inside WerombiTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ruby practised long addition, subtraction, and division, then moved on to rounding decimals and multiplying or dividing by 10.

Year 8 student Liam worked through solving one- and two-step algebraic equations—including those with variables on both sides—using structured examples.

For Year 11, Ethan focused on sketching curves by applying limits and derivative rules before identifying stationary points in calculus.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly arrived without their English book or past work, and homework was either incomplete or rushed just before the lesson—"homework clearly started 5 mins before my arrival," as one tutor noted.

In Year 11 Mathematics, there was a pattern of not creating summary sheets or finishing assigned exercises, leading to gaps when tackling harder differentiation and inequalities.

A Year 6 learner did not review geometry topics before her test and only revised for a week, resulting in missed opportunities to reinforce key methods.

Each instance left students less confident facing new challenges or assessments.

Recent Achievements

A Werombi tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with trig identities now approaching them more independently, successfully proving one on his own after practice.

In a recent Year 8 session, a student who often relied on hints for ratio problems managed to generalise and apply the correct method without prompting, showing new initiative.

Meanwhile, in Year 5 maths, a student who was previously nervous about decimals volunteered to solve several decimal conversion questions out loud and asked clarifying questions when unsure—something she hadn't done before.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Anastasia & Surya seem to be getting on & making progress. Surya seems quite patient, non judgmental & able to explain concepts to Anastasia in a clear & accessible way.

Olivia is doing GREAT! She gets on well with Alex and he is very good at making it fun and keeping it interesting. (she is easily distracted so this isn't easy!)

Matthew is “very happy with Kirsten”. That is the best feedback a child can give. Kirsten has a big challenge to get Matthew up to speed. Kirsten is setting him homework and has increased the time that she is spending with Matthew as he needs to put in extra study with exams pending. We can't ask for more than that from a tutor than to be flexible and mindful of Matthews schedule and timelines. Overall Matthews school results are improving across all learning areas.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Camden Council Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like The Oaks Public School.
