I believe that while all tutors can teach a list of prescribed content, the best kind of tutor is able to help students fully understand their content, and inspire them to work hard and perform to the best of their abilities. Therefore, the most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to ensure that they reach their full potential.…

A tutor can make use of the two kinds of experience he/she has. Firstly as a current/former student himself, he can impart a deeper and thorough understanding of the subject keeping in mind the future academic curriculum and its practical applications. Secondly his experience as a biology tutor means a patient engagement with his student, where in…

The most important thing is to be of assistance. Every student has the potential to achieve good marks and be great at something. We as tutors need to learn and understand students as individuals. We need to guide and assist them as best as possible so they can forge there own career path. We were also students at one point in our life and we also…

The most important things a biology tutor can do for a student is to be approachable. a student always goes to a biology tutor when they find that they need some extra bit. so a tutor must see what that 'extra bit' is? is it time? is it the base knowledge of student, or is it something to do with his style of processing the information. or may be something else. but a tutor must understand the overall demand of the tutoring class…

I believe the most important thing a biology tutor does for a student is allow the student to develop a solid grasp of the content matter and hence achieve the best results. My strengths as a tutor is taking the time to ensure a student has a solid grasp on a concept before moving on to more content. My biology and chemistry teacher did this so I…

Teach them how to study. I feel that too many students think the only way to study is to read the text book or talk to the teacher. Although these are valid ways I feel that most students don't realise there are other ways to study. Firstly identifying the student's various strengths and areas of improvement is very significant to give a general idea of which topics to focus/skills on the most whilst teaching them. Another key area that a tutor should investigate further is the student's most effective way of learning specific concepts e.g. visual, written, auditory etc. A …

Inside Werrington DownsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student focused on basic maths skills, including telling the time and revising the 5 times table.

In Year 8, Alysha practiced multiplication and addressed class worksheet questions about rise over run and calculating gradients, reviewing these using her homework for extra reinforcement.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student worked through algebraic manipulation techniques and explored probability concepts by tackling related school exercises.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student repeatedly arrived at lessons without completing assigned algebra homework, which made it difficult to identify and target misunderstandings—"I gave him homework from the last lesson but he hasn't done them."

In Year 11 Physics, another student did not finish the module booklet before exams, missing key topics like the photoelectric effect.

Meanwhile, a primary student in Years 3–4 avoided memorizing times tables, instead drawing groups for every multiplication or division task; this slowed problem-solving and blocked progress in more complex operations.

Missed revision and unfinished tasks meant that feedback could not be put into action immediately.

Recent Achievements

One Werrington Downs tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who used to hesitate when stuck on division problems—now, after working through examples and seeing her errors, she asks for help as soon as she's unsure and applies the feedback right away.

Another high schooler recently tackled harder questions from past exam papers independently, only needing support on the toughest one and fixing his mistakes after two corrections.

Meanwhile, a younger student who previously guessed at word spellings now takes time to check meanings in the dictionary before reading aloud new words like "fairy rings" and "decaying."

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Rick is the perfect tutor for Emily. She likes ths way he explains maths and gives her useful tips to help remember things. Emily is very happy and is starting to gain the confidence that she can improve her maths.

We are really happy with Nimesh. He has been so accommodating and is a great tutor - Mia is getting a huge amount out of the lessons.

Wanted to take this opportunity to say how great Jeremy is! My daughter was incredibly nervous about having a male tutor but after the first session and moving forward, she feels completely comfortable, at ease and really enjoys her tutoring sessions with Jeremy. He has a very positive attitude and is very kind and encouraging towards Maycee's learning journey and for that we thank you all.... especially Jeremy!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Penrith City Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cambridge Park Public School.
