English Tutor Warburton, VIC
Helping people understand why learning is important to them. Kids can find it hard to see why what they're learning is important. I think a fundamental key is showing how the process of learning itself is the important aspect, rather than specifically the content. While the content is important to grasp, the process of regular work towards a goal,…

Inside WesburnTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 Taiya practised spelling words by writing from dictation and tackled division questions, including larger numbers, as well as reading and drawing clock times.

For Year 8 Erin, lessons focused on revising multiplication and division with large numbers and strategies for mastering times tables.

In Year 10 Codi's session, circular functions were reviewed ahead of an upcoming exam, along with targeted revision of key concepts using practice problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, one student struggled to remember terminology like "tangent" and "domain," leading to confusion during graphing tasks; as the tutor put it, "she finds it hard to see the relevance of content."

In Year 11, another student hesitated to attempt multi-step questions without a calculator, sometimes avoiding pen-and-paper calculations entirely.

A different senior student in English had trouble condensing ideas in essays—her sentences grew so wordy that main points got lost.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner often left homework incomplete and forgot essential materials for tutoring sessions, making it tough to build momentum between lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Wesburn tutor noticed a big change in Maya, a high school student who used to rely heavily on her notes for division but now completes speed rounds unaided of 10 questions in just three minutes with almost no errors—she even set herself a goal for next week.

Another older student, Lizzie, shifted from simply following discussion points to developing her own abstract interpretations and embedding quotes thoughtfully during English analysis, showing much more independent thinking than before.

In primary sessions, Taiya now attempts spelling words without hesitation, even when unsure—a big shift from her earlier reluctance to try.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Jacques seems quite happy with the 3 weeks tutoring he has had and when asked says he is enjoying the lessons. So a good start.

Sophie is responding to Rounak very well. Rounak is a great teacher and Sophie gets along well with him. We're all very happy!

It is going very well. Katie is a truly lovely person. Cassandra has responded well. It is going as well as it can. Cassandra is naturally avoidant of the subjects that she is being tutored in, currently with Katie we are doing one week on Maths and the following week on English and so on. Cassandra engages in the tutoring, and does seem to learn, despite her being sure that she doesn't need a tutor. My partner and myself are very busy at the moment and don't have time to tutor her ourselves, besides, she doesn't like to listen to us, whereas, she will sit beautifully with the tutor. So it really works in that way.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Yarra Junction Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Wesburn Primary School.
