The ability to understand a student and their learning style is something I highly value in a maths tutor. In school classes where they are often one of many, they may find that the teaching style may not work for them and that they cannot achieve their goals. In a tutoring scenario, we are able to cater to them more specifically, to be intuitive…

The most important thing for a maths tutor is not just about telling the student the right answers but about finding different ways of solving problems. Tutors need to help students develop their understanding of mathematical concepts' properties and shift from concrete materials to abstract concepts. My strengths are knowing the content and…

Ensure that the student has the basics down pat so that they can spend more time in the classroom dealing with any advanced concepts that require a fluency with the basics. I think I can explain things in a casual way that gets the big idea of a concept across, and to identify weak spots in students'…

Not only is it important to explain concepts well to students, it is also important to create a foundation for students to bounce back on, so that they can understand how to have enhanced learning for the long term. A good tutor should be inspiring so that students will be motivated to be life-long learners. I believe my experience with teaching…

Aside from teaching academics, it is important that the tutor understands the student and gives advice on how to be a better student such as being motivated, confident, and of course to see the benefits of the education that they have access to. My strengths as a tutor would be my patience and motivation. I am happy when my students enjoy what…

I believe the most important thing a maths tutor can do for students is to give them the confidence to believe in their abilities in order for them to view themselves as capable enough to learn new things, work hard and perform their best. This starts with the tutor identifying the student's area of need and working hard alongside them to improve…

I believe being patient and considerate of each student is the most important thing for a maths tutor to do because this will make the learning space better for the student. If the student feels like their tutor is genuinely caring for their education then they will give their best. I can gauge when a student is or isn't understanding a concept,…

Pat is great. Reliable, personable and knowledgeable. Everything needed and wanted in a tutor. My 15 year old boy is finally not hating tutoring.

Inside West BendigoTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Zane worked on applying order of operations in maths and developing English comprehension by responding to questions in full sentences.

In Year 8, Charlie focused on solving linear equations and writing effective essay introductions in English.

For a primary example, Year 5 student Mia revised mixed and improper fractions using number lines and tackled the area of triangles through hands-on geometry problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, a student became "easily flustered when learning new concepts," which made it difficult to keep focus and led to repeated mistakes in fraction operations.

In Year 11 English, homework was incomplete several weeks in a row; one tutor noted, "spelling and homework this week was not completed to his standard."

A Year 3 student struggled with neatness and laying out working for addition problems—untidy numbers meant carry-overs were misaligned.

During a recent senior assessment review, the absence of test papers ("unable to find previous test") prevented effective feedback on algebra graphing errors.

Recent Achievements

One West Bendigo tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitating to speak up, now openly asks for help when stuck—this change meant he finally tackled tricky algebra problems head-on instead of guessing.

In Year 11 maths, another student surprised herself by not only remembering the composite function method from last session but also pushing ahead to new chapters without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously rushed through homework is now handing in neat work and takes pride in getting more correct answers than before.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Appreciate all the work and effort from Ezymath. Very happy with the program and the service.

Stuart and Ben seem to have hit it off straight away and my son was very happy with his first lesson. It is still early days to really make a comment but Stuart seems like a very smart, helpful, pleasant young man and they both seem to share an interest in soccer.

Due to Nakita's tutor doing an amazing job last year, Nakita has not needed his skills for the beginning of this year, comprehending and understanding the maths content at school extremely well.
