As an english tutor, my biggest responsibility is to give my full attention and time to the students' and listen to what their question is. When a student is aware that they are being heard and you are working with them to overcome the academic hurdle that is when students' really open up to you. They began asking questions that they were unable…

I believe that as an english tutor, one's tenacity is essential. Over the course of tutoring, students will experience difficulties and so it's important that a tutor should keep students motivated and interested. Aside from academic achievements, my strengths are my encouraging approach to learning and diligence in ensuring that a student is able…

I believe the most important things are recognising their progress and congratulating them for it as school can always be tough and every student has a different pace they work at. I also believe having support through your education is important and an english tutor needs to give a student that positive motivation to do well, it’s good for the…

All students are different and their learning style, ways to approach certain topics and ability to process content are all different, therefore tutors being able to support them through difficulties,…

Having freshly graduated from highschool, I understand the importance of wanting the "perfect" tutor. I believe that an english tutor must be confident and patient enough to explain academic concepts from scratch and contribute to the learning confidence of a student. It's also important to be a mentor and make students feel valued. I remember…

There's always gonna be different preferences based on which student an english tutor has. But i do think its extremely important to develop rapport between the tutor and student. And not make it some tedious task they have to do 3 days a week. From my experience if there's something emotionally impactful happening most lessons, then students tend…

The most important thing for an english tutor to be able to do is listen and gauge the progress of the student. There is not any point in just explaining the content verbatim - the student is here because they could not just pick up the textbook and consume the content. From there the flexibility of the tutor's approach is vital to maximise the…

Joanna Reid, Westleigh

Inside WestleighTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Ruby focused on trigonometric ratios (sine, cosine, and tangent), using calculators to solve for unknown sides and angles in triangles, as well as exploring real-world applications like angles of elevation and basic depreciation problems.

Year 10 student Daniel completed work on trigonometry with compass bearings before moving into index laws and tackling multiplying and dividing surds.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Olivia reviewed financial mathematics by calculating wages, salaries, taxes, and comparing simple versus compound interest calculations in preparation for her upcoming quiz.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student forgot to bring completed homework, making it harder to build on last week's work in algebra.

For a Year 11 lesson, an over-reliance on the calculator led to skipped double-checks when rearranging equations; as noted, "he made a sign error but didn't spot it until I asked him to show each step."

In Year 7 trigonometry, confusion around remembering SOHCAHTOA meant progress stalled mid-question.

Meanwhile, a senior student avoided underlining keywords in exam practice and digressed from questions—this left key marking points unaddressed and answers less focused than intended.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Westleigh recently saw a Year 10 student who used to rely heavily on hints now persist through tricky trigonometry problems independently, only checking answers at the end.

Another high school student who'd previously rushed through assignments has started underlining keywords and self-questioning during complex financial maths tasks, leading to noticeably fewer careless errors.

In a Year 5 session, a student who once avoided algebraic equations solved simple linear equations without a calculator for the first time, finishing all of them correctly before moving on to new material.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Sean has a true talent for tutoring. James has bonded so well with him already, he looks forward to his sessions and already the class teacher has advised that he is understanding concepts better and may move him up a level in maths! I'm very happy with his progress. We are glad that Sean has picked up on James' difficulties and appreciate his genuine care for James' progress.

I have no doubt it was Nicole's tuition that increased Eden's understanding & test results to an acceptable level (in fact, a little beyond that). Nicole is friendly, approachable, knowledgeable & expresses her ideas in a manner that suited Eden, I felt she was able to adapt her teaching methods to cater to Eden's learning style, which is an incredibly valuable skill as a teacher/tutor.

I enjoyed working with the team and I found tutoring with EzyMath Tutoring to be an incredibly rewarding experience. I would recommend any high school or primary school student to request tutoring through EzyMath Tutoring as I believe the staff organises tutoring incredibly well and provide an incredible amount of educational material to EzyMath Tutoring tutors. I would personally thank you for all your help and encouragement throughout the program.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Pennant Hills Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Thornleigh West Public School.
