In my opinion, a tutor is not just for supporting a student to complete his assessments and helping them to solve questions. A tutor has an even more close connection with a student than his school teacher. Hence he has a better chance to identify what is the level of a particular student and what support he or she actually needs. Other…

Help them look at things from a different view. That is what most students struggle with and once they understand the basics it is much easier to build on that, to lead into the more advanced topics. Getting the point across and making topics easy to understand. That is what I have been told by the people I have tutored. I give examples that…

Most important thing you can do for a student is not to teach a lesson, but give them a reason to learn the lesson. Make everything a piece of cake and fun. Teaching can be mostly boring and overwhelming especially when you are at the receiving end. I would know as i have always had trouble grasping concepts presented by the so called qualified…

I believe the most important thing is to be well-prepared ahead of the session and have good knowledge of the subject. This will also…

The foremost thing a student asks is the necessity and further use of the topics which they are being taught This is where the tutor steps in. A practical approach always helps in the long run. Once the students are aware about the usage of the concepts, they are able to grasp them much faster. Subjects like Mathematics tend to bore the…

Inside WestmeadowsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Adam explored probability and fractions from Chapter 7, working through practical problems to strengthen understanding.

Year 10 student Chloe revised completing the square and practiced sketching quadratic graphs, focusing on how changes in equations affect their shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emily tackled language analysis by annotating an article for persuasive techniques and then practiced writing her own analysis using those features.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 English, a student left revision too late and struggled to recall key quotes for No Sugar, making it difficult to build essay paragraphs ("did not know key aspects of the texts").

In another senior class, homework was incomplete—time meant for learning persuasive techniques was lost.

A Year 9 student's essay work stalled when their book was left at school; this also limited reading over the week.

In primary maths, one student continued to rely on counting fingers instead of recalling multiplication facts quickly, slowing progress in division tasks. Moments like these lead to gaps that are hard to bridge mid-task.

Recent Achievements

One Westmeadows tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating to ask for help, started actively seeking clarification on tricky vocabulary during lessons and pinpointed exactly which exam areas needed work.

Another high schooler had struggled to link quotes between novels, but this week managed to connect key passages across two texts and explain how they fit major themes—something she'd never attempted before.

Meanwhile, a younger student grew visibly more relaxed as the session went on, ending by volunteering answers aloud after starting out quiet and reserved.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We really appreciated Arman‘s efforts and enthusiasm even when Aby was playing up. He is a wonderful teacher!

She is one of the finest tutors I have seen. Her consistency and persistent attitude towards the children growth makes her exceptional. Because of her, my niece developed confidence in all phases of education.

Stephanie our tutor for Loki has been great. Loki is enjoying the sessions and in the short time we have seen him becoming more confident. Truly appreciate your assistance in getting Loki up to speed. Rest assured if I hear of anyone looking for a tutor I will send them your way!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hume Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Westmeadows Primary School.
