Geography Tutor North Lakes, QLD
I think the most important thing for a tutor is to understand what their student is struggling with and make a plan to deal with the issue at hand. This requires building a connection with students and understanding how they might learn a specific topic. All students are unique and learn differently than other students, which requires the ability…

Local Reviews

Hellene is very friendly and well organised. She makes my daughter feel comfortable and at ease. She has given my daughter great tips on how to help her understand maths questions. She is very professional and patient. I recommend Hellene to anyone that is wanting a tutor for their child.

Inside WhitesideTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Tasha practised calculating surface area and reviewed a range of exam topics, reinforcing key geometry concepts.

In Year 11, Daniel focused on applying differentiation and integration in mathematics using worked examples to clarify the process.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Emily explored optimization problems in higher-level maths, tackling real-world scenarios and preparing for upcoming mock tests.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 maths, one student hesitated to attempt unfamiliar questions without guidance, often pausing mid-task and waiting for prompts; as the tutor observed, "I encouraged her to think independently before providing help."

Meanwhile, a senior chemistry student resorted to guessing equations rather than applying learned methods, which led to confusion during assignment completion.

In middle years (Year 7–8), another student's working was disorganised when writing out questions—he missed steps and had trouble recalling formulas under pressure.

For primary level maths, frequent rushing caused repeated small errors in counting money and basic operations, slowing progress on new skills.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Whiteside noticed that Kiana, a high school student, went from feeling unsure about negative indices to independently finishing those questions quickly and accurately by the end of her session.

Another high schooler, Clancey, who started out hesitant with trigonometric functions, was able to answer problems on his own after some guided practice—something he hadn't managed before.

In Year 3, Sophia used real coins during maths and moved from struggling with counting money to confidently completing worksheets while actually enjoying the process.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

At this stage we are very happy. Nick likes Tharaka and his overall attitude to maths has changed. He is quite happy to give things a go. His confidence is building.

Suparna is lovely and very patient and Sitota is very happy with her. I think it will take a good few months before we see any progress with Sitota considering her learning difficulties. All positive and we are moving forward though

Mo is a lovely girl and Ashleigh seems to be benefitting a great deal from her tutoring sessions with her. Ashleigh is fairly motivated and I'm sure by the time exams come around there will be a noticeable difference in her capabilities. Mo and Ashleigh interact quite well and Ashleigh is much more confident about what she is doing after her sessions. All in all, at this stage we couldn't be happier with the way things are going.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Strathpine Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kurwongbah State School.
