Give the student confidence and appreciate them on even the smallest of their accomplishments of their day. 3. Encourage asking questions. 4. Try to make…

I think it would be to teach them the ability to learn a topic the right way. Instead of handing them the answers, it's important to teach them how to reach that answer so that they can do it on their own too. I'm a very patient person, and I'm able to explain concepts, in very simple terms if…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is by understanding the student first on what its weakness or strengths lies on. Then deliver theories based on the insight gained. Essentially help a student to become an independent thinker and leaner. Tutors should work towards the goal of teaching their students so that the students can later on answer questions correctly on their own without any form of assistance. And more to the point I think at the core of it a tutor should help students UNDERSTAND concepts and…

Inside Wiley ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Olivia focused on identifying and simplifying ratios, as well as writing equivalent ratios using practical examples.

In Year 8, Noah worked through scale drawings by applying unit conversions for length and distance in worded problems.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Sarah reviewed half-yearly exam topics such as operations with fractions, decimals, and percentages, including their application to financial questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly left working out incomplete, especially units in ratio and geometry questions, leading to lost marks—"she needs to develop the habit of writing FULL working out, including all units," as one tutor observed.

In a Year 9 algebra session, she relied heavily on calculators for fraction and percentage conversions instead of practicing by hand, which slowed her confidence with mixed exam questions.

During primary revision, a student skipped over worded multiplication problems without breaking them down into steps or checking their layout; this made it hard to spot mistakes before moving on.

In high school sessions, not creating summary notes or revisiting foundational skills before exams meant she guessed answers under pressure and forgot key processes after breaks.

Recent Achievements

A Wiley Park tutor noticed a big shift in one high school student's approach to assessments—after usually waiting until the last minute, she began working on her logbook and portfolio the same day they were assigned, bringing creative ideas to her project.

Another high schooler who previously hesitated with "hard" ratio problems now completes similar questions independently after just a brief explanation.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to struggle when subtracting smaller numbers from larger ones is now confidently using borrowing without prompting, finishing subtraction exercises with no errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lakemba Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lakemba Public School.
