Enhancing their interests in learning, building up their confidence, and preparing them to tackle the day-to-day homeworks / assginments, then tests and examinations. Helping a student visualize the portions they learn would be the best thing a tutor can do for a student. If a student is able to visualize a portion, the student will be able to learn the concept and use it to apply in various applications. Making a student fall in love with what they learn is the most important thing, as I experienced the same…

Make sure they thoroughly understand the concepts they’re learning, and how that ties into real world problems. They should also give positive reinforcement to the kids so they become more confident in their abilities and get excited about learning. Being patient with kids and making them feel comfortable to ask questions. I also love math so I…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student would be helping them build a solid foundation in their understanding of the subjects, whilst passing on some of the experiences the tutor has to the student. I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is be patient and try to bring themselves to the students own level of understanding of a topic in order to explain in a way that makes sense to the student. I think it's important that the student feels understood and is able to communicate what they don't understand, so that the…

A tutor should provide a space where students feel okay about asking questions and admitting when they're unsure. It's not just about giving answers, it's about helping students find solutions themselves. Encouraging students to see mistakes as learning opportunities is also key. Building their confidence in their own abilities is one of the most…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen and understand the student's learning style and being able to adapt accordingly. Students often learn at a different pace from each other and a tutor should understand when to slow down, when to speed up, or when to adjust the teaching style to suit the student's learning…

I believe that tutors must be good analyzers if they want to succeed. I mean that they have to examine the way students study and practice and even think. After a good observation, they can provide students with the tools with which students can improve their weaknesses. This can be different form one student to another one. Besides, Encouraging…

This is completely dependent on the student. Capable students may just need iteration on why this is important to learn coming from a peer rather than a guardian (something I would have benefited from as a student) to help with motivation. Other students may be motivated but lack someone who can teach in a format that they understand. I believe…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to a student and never give up on them. Too easily teachers can be frustrated by students and give up on them, despite everyone finding different things difficult to understand. By listening to a student you can also ask them to first explain the concept to you. Often its just a…

Ultimately, the tutor must inspire a positive attitude towards…

Inside WillageeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Paige worked through real numbers, estimation, and the multiplication and division of decimals, with a focus on identifying areas for improvement.

Year 8 Oli concentrated on solving linear equations using graphs and revising properties of quadrilaterals in preparation for an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 9 Isabel practiced trigonometry questions and completed a mock test to identify strengths and weaknesses ahead of her assessment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly skipped reviewing previous lesson notes, which meant class time was used reteaching old multiplication techniques instead of advancing ("we had to go back and repeat some multiplication techniques").

In Year 10, one learner struggled with algebra worded problems—hesitating to write out working, which made it hard to spot where the translation from words to equations broke down.

A Year 4 student found expressing number facts in writing difficult; this sometimes slowed progress when practicing sums with larger numbers or using inequality symbols.

Missed homework and unorganised files led to extra confusion during sessions for a senior student revising real numbers.

Recent Achievements

A Willagee tutor recently noticed that a Year 10 student, Abbi, who previously needed help with factorising quadratics, now solves standard quadratic equations independently and completes her homework using the elimination method without prompting.

In Year 11, Isabel showed a shift from just following steps to confidently creating algebraic equations from worded problems—a skill she found challenging last term.

Meanwhile, Xavier in Year 3 has started counting numbers and solving addition problems on his own after weeks of needing reminders; he now initiates his work without cues from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Willagee Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Caralee Community School.
