Everything can be transformed if we can transform the brain and recreate those neural connections which will bring back creative intuition in your life. I try to curate experiential transformation learning in my teachings to bring back creative…

I think the most important steps are, making sure the student has understood, even if you have to re-explain the concept an n number of times or in a multiple different ways, and providing support whenever the student needs it. I hate tutors that charge for help given outside of their class times, or those who specifically arrange for short…

A tutor should try to think like a student tutor should try to get into the child’s mind, mostly a tutor should try to bend according to the child’s need because if a tutor is just like a machine then they won’t be able to critically analyse where the child is unable to grasp the knowledge so it’s very very important that a tutor should…

The most important thing of a tutor is the ability to impart knowledge in a suitable, correct and effective way to the students. Good knowledge is important, but without the ability to impart knowledge, teaching will never be successful. I have 4 main strengths. Firstly, I love children and love teaching. Secondly, I have high patience and am…

Tutors must prepare for teaching prior to the session. Briefly revising a topic that the tutor may have not covered in a couple of years will allow the tutor to spend more quality teaching time with the student. A tutor must also be responsive. If a student is contacting their tutor with a question, even if its outside of the specified teaching…

The first and foremost is being patient. Not everyone can learn and understand concepts at the same pace, so patience is very important. Trying different learning styles when the initial learning style doesn't work is another one, because people don't learn the same way. I'm very good at breaking down complex concepts into clear,…

Listen to the students and understand what the actual issue is. More often than not it's not the concept itself but how the student is processing the concept, and if you don't see that you'll only be able to help them understand through repetition. I think I huge part of it is often confidence. I have found most students already understand and are able to do the work however they don’t have the confidence to back themselves. Local Reviews

Charnie, Williamstown

Inside WilliamstownTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Emily focused on adding and subtracting fractions and worked through worded questions involving long division to strengthen calculation skills.

Year 8 student Liam practiced expanding brackets in algebra and solved problems involving linear relations, including plotting points on Cartesian planes.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Olivia tackled quadratic equations and explored index laws, using example problems to reinforce her understanding of powers and roots.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths, a student relied heavily on calculators for matrix and network problems; as one tutor observed, "it would be worth revising how to calculate matrix problems by hand."

In Year 8, written work was often disorganized—answers weren't lined up when working with decimals, making it hard to track mistakes.

During a Year 5 session, a student repeatedly erased and rewrote answers rather than showing working steps, which made it tough to check reasoning or catch errors.

For a Year 9 learner, skipping notation and not simplifying fractions meant correct answers took longer to verify during revision.

Recent Achievements

A Williamstown tutor recently noticed Eddison, a high school student, becoming much more independent in his problem-solving—he now shows all his working out when expanding brackets and grouping like terms, which is a big change from when he'd rush to answers without explaining steps.

Chelsea, also in high school, has started using factor trees to break numbers into prime factors on her own and can clearly explain the difference between index and expanded form—a real leap from needing prompts last term.

In Year 5 maths, Genevieve finally clicked with the concept of area by reasoning through why side lengths are multiplied; she then solved several worded problems involving area without hesitation.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Karla's tutoring is going very well. Hilario has a lovely manner and approach and Karla seems to be getting on very well with him. They have talked about getting the basics right and he's teaching her tips to remember key things as Karla becomes very stressed in exams and cannot concentrate. So hopefully this approach will help.

Noah is doing well so far with Michelle as his tutor. He is starting to improve with his understanding of Maths and is happy with the way Michelle is working with him. I think as time goes by and he becomes more confident that he will improve more.

So far so good. Freddy is lovely and Oscar seems to be settling into having a tutor really well.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Williamstown Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Williamstown North Primary School.
