There are 2 jobs of a tutor. To make the student understand what they are learning and also encourage them to do quality practice questions. I have a really deep understanding in all concepts of maths and physics (high school level), and I'm really good at breaking them down into simpler bits. I also know the importance of practicing these…

I think teaching students how to be independent is something tutors must do. Prioritizing things like active learning wherein students get to question things themselves, rather than being spoon-fed answers is important. Making them learn that they can find the answers themselves if they put in the effort is important. And obviously creating all…

Teach them how to study which they will benefit through their whole life. And make them fall in love with study, teaching should be interesting and classes should be fun. I am strongly responsible and get along well with children. I am also good at maths and science, and I know how to explain to children using interesting ways instead of reading…

The most important thing would be to push them to be passionate and to be interested in what they are doing, and to help them want to improve at what they're learning. I find myself to be very relatable to students, likely due to my age, and able to convey information in a way that makes it easy to understand for a younger…

As per my opinion, I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to be their friend and guide and help them as their friend. More often than not, students fear approaching tutors. But if you have maintained a friendly relation with your students, your students will not hesitate in coming and speaking with you. This way, a…

In mi opinion, a tutor should take care of the students in terms of ensuring that they understand each one of the concepts and topics explained. He/she should not hesitate in repeating an explanation as many times as necessary if the student doesn't understand any topic. After finishing my bachelor in Aerospace engineering and some international…

I believe the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is be reliable and consistent in helping them with problems that hey have either in class or with homework. It is important that they understand the way you teach and also the way a tutor has to cater differently for every individual student. My ability to communicate with…

My main goal as a tutor is watch my students improve. Hence the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be their support system. To encourage them during challenging times and to always keep their spirits up so that they will always be motivated to do their best. A tutor's greatest contribution is to give students confidence in their upcoming studies. In addition to teaching academic knowledge, tutors need to point out directions for students and divide difficult tasks into steps to cultivate students' problem-solving ability. I have sufficient experience in counseling teenagers, I am good at communicating…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be proud of all the improvements the student has done. It's not about congratulating them for being a high achieving student. Instead, we should congratulate them for any improvement that they have done, since that is one step closer to success. I believe one of my strengths is…

In my opinion, the most important thing, that a tutor can do for the student is to understand the problems which the student is facing, and then come up with a plan on how to overcome these problems. Apart from this, understanding the knowledge graph of the student, and teaching him/her according to the pattern, which they understand the most, is…

A tutor can be kind and patient with the student and open to any kind of question, however basic it might be and not ridicule the child. The tutor can also repeat the same thing until the student had finally grasped the concept so that they are completely confident. Having grown up around teachers, I have learnt a lot from them. I have learnt to…

Help them to gain back their confidence. I mean from primary to middle school or even high school, the curriculum might be hard but not that hard that students could not pass it. Learning is all about association. You cannot go to C without having to go through A and B. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to focus on the basics first and only if the basics are clear should the tutor proceed with the new concepts. Individual attention to each student and identifying their individual…

To be able to connect with the kids/student, making an environment where they are excited and enjoy studying, while being able to speak up on their doubts. I connect with the kids quite well. Inside WilliamstownTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Emily focused on adding and subtracting fractions and worked through worded questions involving long division to strengthen calculation skills.

Year 8 student Liam practiced expanding brackets in algebra and solved problems involving linear relations, including plotting points on Cartesian planes.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Olivia tackled quadratic equations and explored index laws, using example problems to reinforce her understanding of powers and roots.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths, a student relied heavily on calculators for matrix and network problems; as one tutor observed, "it would be worth revising how to calculate matrix problems by hand."

In Year 8, written work was often disorganized—answers weren't lined up when working with decimals, making it hard to track mistakes.

During a Year 5 session, a student repeatedly erased and rewrote answers rather than showing working steps, which made it tough to check reasoning or catch errors.

For a Year 9 learner, skipping notation and not simplifying fractions meant correct answers took longer to verify during revision.

Recent Achievements

A Williamstown tutor recently noticed Eddison, a high school student, becoming much more independent in his problem-solving—he now shows all his working out when expanding brackets and grouping like terms, which is a big change from when he'd rush to answers without explaining steps.

Chelsea, also in high school, has started using factor trees to break numbers into prime factors on her own and can clearly explain the difference between index and expanded form—a real leap from needing prompts last term.

In Year 5 maths, Genevieve finally clicked with the concept of area by reasoning through why side lengths are multiplied; she then solved several worded problems involving area without hesitation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Williamstown Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Williamstown North Primary School.
