As a maths tutor, I believe the most important thing I can do for a student is to create a safe and supportive learning environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. This engaging and safe environment allows for open communication and a deeper understanding of the material. I've experienced countless hostile…

I think its most important a maths tutor supports students while they are first learning an unfamiliar topic, helps them practice to gain confidence, and ensures they are able to perform independently by providing constructive feedback. I have a practical approach and have mentored students of ages 18 to 55. With mathematics and physics education…

I think a maths tutor can help get a student interested in a subject by engaging with them in a one-on-one setting, in a way that teachers cannot do. I am patient with my students and believe I can explain concepts well. Student understanding (as opposed to simply test outcomes) is imperative and i work within that…

The main purpose of a maths tutor is to expand the tutee's tree of knowledge in a holistic manner. There is no point simply explaining the knowledge behind 1 leaf if it has nothing to hold on to, ie. the trunk and branches. If the leaf has nothing to hold on to then it will fall. So the tutors job is to find the best and most empathetic way from…

A tutor must give a student confidence and help them to not be overwhelmed by new topics. Once a student believes they can learn something, it is much easier to actually learn it. Tutors must also be personal and understand what method of teaching is most effective for each individual. As a recently graduated student, I am able to understand how…

I believe each student has a set goal in their minds. Therefore, the most important thing that I think I can do for a student, is to make sure they reach their desired goal and preferably even surpass it. This will teach them that they can achieve anything as long as they put in the work and come in with the right attitude. I am very attentive and…

The most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is to actually care about him/her. Teaching the subject is something they already had at school, but they need more than words thrown in their direction and that's why I'm here I would say that understanding the kid's problem and being able to breakdown a subject into small, simple steps…

John has been an amazing tutor for my son. John restored my son's confidence in his ability to do maths and prepared him for Year 12 exams.I cannot recommend his work highly enough, as he did everything we asked of him and more.

Inside WindsorTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jess focused on adding and subtracting fractions as well as simplifying them, and also worked through division and multiplication using practical examples.

In Year 10, Sophie practised rearranging equations and tackled compound interest problems from a practice test to reinforce her understanding before an exam.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex reviewed anti-differentiation and differentiation for an assignment, along with cosine and sine functions by working through chapter questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student struggled to organise her method when analysing geometry problems—she stumbled on some small areas of solving, and incomplete written steps meant confusion slowed her progress.

In Year 11, another student found unfamiliar test questions overwhelming, relying heavily on the tutor to direct each step rather than building independent problem-solving confidence; after setbacks, hesitation increased.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student's messy work layout made it difficult for her to check answers or spot calculation errors in division tasks. These moments left students spending extra time retracing steps instead of tackling new material.

Recent Achievements

One Windsor tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to get stuck rearranging formulas now confidently identifies and corrects her own mistakes during practice tests, showing new independence.

In Year 10 physics, another student who'd previously struggled with Newton's laws was able to explain the difference between linear equations and their application in projectile motion without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once hesitated to start worksheets on her own has begun initiating tasks and works through each question thoroughly before asking for help—last session she completed every problem in the set independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Grange Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Mary of the Cross School.
