Engineering Studies Tutor Bardia, NSW
The most important role a tutor can play is showing constant and unconditional support for their student. This is something I've learned from the example of my previous tutor who answered almost every email or text message within the hour within reason. I believe showing this constant support allows the student to trust us as tutors and react more…

Inside WoodbineTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student John worked on applying trigonometric ratios, including sine and cosine rules for non-right-angled triangles, as well as some advanced bearing questions.

For Year 10, Emily focused on monic and non-monic quadratic equations, practicing both the quadratic formula and problems involving angles of depression and elevation.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah tackled surface area and volume calculations for composite shapes, with additional work converting between different metric units to solve practical measurement questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7, a student's tendency to skip writing steps in algebra meant sign errors went unnoticed—"he understands all the steps but sometimes forgets to write it down or tries to skip through them," as one tutor observed.

In senior maths (Year 11), over-reliance on calculators led to repeated mistakes when inputting long quadratic formulas, causing confusion between what was understood on paper and actual answers.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 science student missed marks by not referencing graph data directly in written responses.

These habits resulted in time lost correcting avoidable errors and uncertainty during assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Woodbine tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who had previously hesitated to tackle trigonometry problems independently—this week, he confidently applied the Pythagorean theorem and trig ratios on his calculator to solve for unknown sides and angles without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student, who once waited for hints before starting equations, now begins working out steps aloud and explains her reasoning as she solves geometry questions.

At the primary level, a Year 3 learner moved from mixing up addition and subtraction to consistently choosing the correct operation when given worded problems—she finished an entire worksheet on her own this session.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Yes very happy with Phoebe she is a wonderful tutor & very pleasant towards my girls  they feel at ease with her as she explains all maths concepts in the simplest of forms (much to the delight. of my daughter Phoebe who said she's learned/understood a lot more in the last three weeks than she had learned all of last year) &  she's building up their confidence to have a more positive outlook when approaching their maths homework!

I just got back from the US this morning we are very happy with Rhett and Connor has really clicked with him and his teaching methods. Under Rhetts tutoring Connor managed to go from a fail to a C+ 65% on his resit after only two sessions with Rhett so a great achievement if we had the ability to have more sessions with Rhett we would happily take them.

So far Katie has been prompt, personable and prepared. As you say it is very early days -we are only just getting to the point where we are clear on where she is at and where she needs to be.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown City Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Claymore Public School.
