The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make sure that the student understands the concepts thoroughly. Not just a few questions or math problems, but the concept is the most important to get through. As a tutor it's a crucial job to make a base for the student, as this is the foundation for the student which needs to be really…

I believe that it is important for a tutor to be patient, empathetic, and understanding of the student's unique circumstances and challenges. By providing a positive and supportive learning experience, a tutor can help the student develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed academically and beyond. As a tutor, I believe my strengths lie…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to have them gain confidence with themselves in terms of excelling in school. I think this confidence is important in not just getting high marks in quizzes and tests, but I believe that being confident will help them long-term in solving problems not just in school, even though…

I don't believe that the most important things that a tutor can do for a student start in the classroom. The most important thing in achieving desired outcomes in school, or any discipline, is attitude. It starts with understanding that a whole is made up of parts, and that ten minutes a day, although small, adds up over the course of three…

I think the most important skills a tutor can do for student is to be patience and communicate. Understand student about their difficulties. In my view, the most important things a tutor can do is to build a positive relationship with a student which is the key to become an effective teacher. This is important because it is impossible to engage a student into learning without building a positive rapport with them. The other important thing is to always encourage them to keep trying and…

I've always been hesitant to answer questions in class because I feared being wrong. At home when my parents asked me that same question, I answered without the fear of being wrong. I think the most important thing a tutor can offer to a younger student is their experience, similar to that of a mentor. Inside WoodparkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ethan revised multiplication strategies and practiced adding fractions with unlike denominators using visual models.

In Year 7, Emily focused on converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages, and tackled problems involving elapsed time.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Jack worked through multiplying and dividing fractions as well as multi-digit multiplication questions, including mixed numbers and their decimal equivalents.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student often skipped writing out working in long division, relying on mental calculations—this sometimes led to errors that were hard to trace ("most of the questions were done in his head and could cause silly mistakes").

In Year 9 English, another student hesitated to expand answers or reference texts for comprehension, preferring short responses rather than building structure.

A senior student tackling essay planning struggled with organizing ideas, leading to unclear arguments.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner avoided practicing harder times tables, sticking to addition strategies even when multiplication was required.

Recent Achievements

One Woodpark tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously rushed through long division now showing real patience and planning—reading each question carefully and planning her next steps before answering.

A Year 8 student, after struggling with the concept of algorithms for several sessions, was finally able to pick up new methods immediately and worked through square roots without hesitation.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once guessed at answers during reading comprehension is now pausing to locate information in the text and referencing where she found her answers before responding.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greystanes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sherwood Grange Public School.
