Besides helping them understand and learn a topic, the tutor should also help the student master the topic through mastery learning. Mastery learning is a way of designing units of work so that each set of tasks focuses on a particular learning objective and students must master a task to move onto the next one. The tutor should also help the…

Tutors should check for understanding as they go and constantly build confidence so that the student feels like their abilities are improving. When a student feels confident, wonderful things begin to happen. Their curiosity is ignited, and they are more likely to ask questions in class and read additional texts about things that interest them.…

I believe that tutoring helps students to be open since most of them are shy and afraid of their teachers. The tutor could also help boost the confidence of his/her students. Lastly, I believe that tutor's guidance and help can make the impossible possible, a slow student to an honor student. I believe that my experiences as a faculty/teacher and…

One of most important things a tutor can have is patience, sometimes students need concepts explained a certain way before they'll understand, or they may need multiple tries to get a question correct. I think encouragement is the most important for a student. If we make a feeling of "it is possible" in a student's life, then he can excel in any subjects. Its that feeling that urged me to do many things in my life. An ideal tutor should be a support for a student, and get full marks from their happy face. I preplan my timetable for a day and…

Every student can find possibly any knowledge available by using Google, but…

The most important thing that any tutor can do for a student is to be a good listener. Knowing a student's expectations is really important in planning effective tutoring techniques. Only when we understand the requirements of the student and the hurdles that he or she face, will we be able to suggest solutions and work towards them. My biggest…

Local Reviews

We have been getting a tutor for our year 8 twin boys and their marks have gone from a C to an A (93 and 95%) in two and a half terms. They are a lot more focussed and feel a lot more confident going into exams. I have and will refer EzyMath to other parents for sure. Cheers, Brad

Inside Woodville GardensTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Georgia focused on breaking down number sentences and practiced long division, as well as reviewing times tables to build mental maths skills.

For Year 9, Ali revised scientific notation and significant figures in calculations, then worked through percentage-based questions including mark-ups, discounts, and profit/loss scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Priya tackled factoring quadratic trinomials using different methods and reviewed difference of two squares problems to consolidate algebraic techniques.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 maths, a student completed most tasks but left several exercise questions unfinished until prompted; as noted, "he didn't complete the exercise questions, so made him to complete it."

In Year 11 biology, one learner hesitated to answer homeostasis questions at home and required repeated explanations to clarify confusion.

A Year 8 student relied heavily on guessing in problem-solving sessions—"she tends to guess her answers instead of thinking it through"—which slowed progress and increased frustration during money calculations.

In senior classes, forgetting key formulas or misapplying exponent laws often led to missed marks on tests despite understanding concepts when explained step-by-step.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Woodville Gardens noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who had always left assignments to the last minute—this week, she proudly showed her finished work before the due date for the first time.

Another high schooler has started asking targeted questions when stuck on scientific notation, instead of staying silent and guessing through problems; this is helping her handle new exam material much more independently.

In a primary session, one student surprised himself by reciting his times tables smoothly using a chant—a breakthrough after weeks of freezing up on multiplication tasks.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with Katie and her style. She is giving Blythe confidence and this week Blythe has completed her homework with much less assistance!

Sessions are going really well. Hasnat and Charlotte are building a good rapport. She is very happy with the sessions, and they are communicating well. So all good!

Lille has taken well to tutoring so far and Jackie is a great match for Lille so we are happy.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as The Parks Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Woodville Gardens School Birth-6.
