Ancient History Tutor Woody Point, QLD
One of the most important things a tutor can bring is a sense of understanding with the student. To really understand how the student thinks, learns and processes information. This the main tool when teaching a student, giving the students proper motivation and tools to tackle any problems they might face along the way. i Have a Dyslexia brother…

Ancient History Tutor Sandgate, QLD
I think the most important thing for a tutor to do for a student is assist in their learning development. Helping to instil a passion for continued learning and development should also be something a tutor strives for. My communication skills, my ability to develop rapport and my ability to give real-world context to things I teach. As mentioned…

The staff were very helpful - all the way from setting up through to the actual tutorials.. The tutor was also one of the best I've ever had for Math. He actually helped me understand how it works, not just memorise formulas.

Inside Woody PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Murray worked on building his fluency with multiplication facts, especially the 9x tables, and practiced mental addition strategies to move away from finger counting.

Year 8 student Jalen focused on solving two-step algebraic equations involving expanding brackets, as well as practicing substitution into algebraic expressions and tackling questions with powers and square roots.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Callum reviewed trigonometry topics including the sine and cosine rules using diagnostic exam questions, and also revised scientific notation and significant figures to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student often forgot to expand the second term in brackets—"sometimes Jalen forgets to expand the 2nd term when expanding a single bracket"—which led to repeated errors on homework even after mastering the process in-session.

For a senior student, exam performance suffered due to pressure and unfamiliar worded problems; as noted, "he does feel the pressure in exams," resulting in mistakes not seen during practice.

Meanwhile, a primary student relied heavily on finger-counting for addition and was only confident with a few times tables, which slowed progress in multi-step calculations.

Recent Achievements

A recent Woody Point tutoring session saw Callum, a senior high school student, move from hesitancy to confidently solving sine and cosine rule problems he'd previously struggled with—by the end, he could tackle even the trickier examples independently.

In Year 8, Jalen has started catching his own mistakes in algebra; after making small errors on homework, he now checks his work more carefully and gets single-bracket equations correct without prompting.

Meanwhile, Murray in primary school used to count on his fingers for the 9 times tables but now recalls them quickly using memory tricks and is less reliant on finger counting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Isabella is very happy with Phoebe and she has already shown improvement in her school work. Her teacher actually called me to tell me that she had improved which was great to hear.

All is going well with Baily. Sian and Baily got along really well right from the first lesson - great rapport! We are happy to continue with the tutoring.

Rahul is an amazing tutor. He uses very effective techniques to help my daughter be confident in Maths a subject she struggles with. Thank you for sending him because he is absolutely fantastic.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Redcliffe Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Southern Cross Catholic College - Woody Point Campus.
