Tutors can provide a one-on-one situation where they're able to realise the students weaknesses and target those areas. They can also be someone else for the students to ask questions where they may be too shy or unable to during a large classroom environment. Tutoring can also help reinforce content that students learnt that day or week. I am a…

Inside WooloowareTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Thomas worked on geometry concepts including angle identities (co-interior, alternate, corresponding) and types of triangles using labelled diagrams.

For Year 8, Mia practiced solving equations involving inequalities and algebraic manipulation.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Alex focused on financial mathematics applications and reviewed exam topics such as probability, building confidence through real-world examples and past paper questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Ancient History, one student missed key source details by collecting references after writing instead of during research—"gathering sources as she goes would save time and boost accuracy."

Meanwhile, a Year 9 maths session revealed messy handwriting made it hard for anyone else to follow working, especially in algebra; this led to confusion when checking answers.

For a Year 4 lesson on measurement conversions, the process was skipped and calculations weren't written out step by step, so errors went unnoticed until the end. These habits created extra work retracing steps or redoing tasks rather than moving forward confidently.

Recent Achievements

One Woolooware tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who, after struggling with algebraic manipulation, now solves single-variable equations independently and even recognises patterns in algebra without prompting.

In Year 8, another student who used to hesitate when tackling geometry problems has begun using different methods to find unknown angles and can combine multiple topics to solve complex questions—something she found daunting before.

Meanwhile, a primary student who was previously reluctant to ask for help now openly checks her understanding of decimals and confidently converts between hours, minutes, and seconds on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cronulla Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Francis de Sales Catholic Primary School.
