To me, the most essential role a tutor can fulfill is that of an enabler and empowerer. I believe a tutor's primary goal should be to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge and a resilient problem-solving framework, not only to tackle academic challenges but also to navigate any obstacle life may present. An empowering tutor equips…

I think the most crucial part of any tutoring experience is to make sure that the student knows that the tutor is there for them and will not get frustrated if mess something up. If the tutor comes off as condescending or annoyed at a lack of progress, it can allow the student to put added pressure on him/herself or create an aversion to learning…

The tutor must understand the student. Some students try really hard to learn but may fail to show successful results. The tutor must understand this, assure the student that he/she is making progress, and guide the student every inch of the way. Second, the tutor must consider the pursuits of the students as his/her own personal endeavor as…

I think the key thing a tutor can do for a student is ensure that their individual learning habits are in order, creating an essential degree of independence. I have found it extremely valuable to ensure students develop a solid work ethic and understand how they can study effectively. In this sense tutoring plays a supplementary role, ensuring…

The most important thing is to make sure that the student doesn't feel overwhelmed with their workload, and instead has fun (or at least doesn't detest the time spent) while studying. In this regard, the tutor has to make the content interesting and tailor it to each individual if it's one-on-one. I'm very patient in explaining concepts. I also…

I think the greatest gift a tutor can provide to a student is support. A tutor can also make the learning experience far more rewarding and enjoyable. Students feel…

As a tutor you need to provide the individual with problem solving skills to allow them to recognise when a situation is difficult and ways in which they can go about the problem or situation in an effective way to gain insight. The most important things that a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, are motivating the students to learn on their own as well as arming them with the tools and study skills. The motivation to learn is critical, since the tutor can teach the material, but at the end of the day, it is the student who has to master it. Without such…

A tutor should be able to explain concepts in a manner which allows students to understand the concepts and apply it elsewhere. The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student in my opinion is to give them guidance on how to be successful in the subject we tutor. Local Reviews

My daughter and I were talking about a math's tutor so we thought we would look on the internet for options and before we knew it (within hours) EzyMath Tutoring contacted us and I think by the next day we had a local tutor set up for the following week. All so easy but more importantly our daughter is so happy having math's tutor and very much respects her tutor; win win all round I would say.

Inside WoolwichTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Emma focused on trigonometry and surface area, using step-by-step diagrams to connect formulas with real-world shapes.

In Year 10, James practised solving problems involving normal distribution and annuities, interpreting statistical data from recent assessments.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Olivia worked through fractions and decimal-to-fraction conversion, reinforcing her understanding with visual models during worded questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, a student's written work in algebra was often hard to follow, as noted: "He needs to set his work out properly and concisely," which made it difficult to spot calculation slips and meant redoing questions instead of moving forward.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student preparing for trial exams relied heavily on formula sheets without memorizing key formulas, leading to slow progress during timed practice.

In another case, a Year 10 student avoided attempting homework on linear relationships; missing this practice left her unsure when tackling new types of graphing problems in sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Woolwich tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to tackle questions solo—she's now working through equations independently and deciding which formulas to use without prompting.

In a recent high school session, another student who struggled with linear algebra last term is starting to ask clarifying questions instead of skipping tough problems, leading to clear progress on surface area tasks.

Meanwhile, a younger student surprised her tutor by recalling area formulas unprompted after often needing reminders in earlier lessons; she finished all assigned shape questions without needing hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greenwich Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marist Sisters' College Woolwich.
