I think the most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to encourage them to ask questions that they never felt comfortable asking in front of their actual teachers. As a teacher, I believe that academic independence and curiosity are the greatest qualities I can give to them. I consider my patience a valuable asset as a tutor. I…

The most important thing that a physics tutor can impart on a student is self-confidence. There was a time in my life when I was not an excellent student and needed the help of tutors. Things changed when I started believing in myself. I believe that students who receive encouragement will perform well and will most likely have successful careers.…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student, outside of teaching concepts, is to support the student to arrive at the conclusion/answer themselves rather than leading them to it. A tutor must always support and encourage students to think for themselves. I always listen to my students and encourage them to think out loud. This…

We all learn differently, in different ways, and at different times. A student may be a visual, auditory or movement learner. Some are a combination of all three types of learning styles. It is my job as an educator to determine how each of my students learn best, and to teach them strategies that they can use to help them achieve their full…

I think the most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to help guide them in a non-intrusive and non-judgmental way. Every student has their own path in life and they all may be in different places on that path. The best thing a tutor can do for a student is help them think about where they want to go on that path beyond just…

All students need a little help, a little hope, and somebody who believes in them. That somebody is definitely their tutor. Tutors do not just give out answers, they want students to understand how to do the work on their own. Tutoring is a huge liability as your students look upon you as a mentee and a good tutor never lets them down.…

Evaluating the academic potential and comprehension level of a student is very important for a physics tutor. Only by understanding the current situation, can a tutor estimate the methods to employ in teaching a student or estimate how far back the tutor has to start with the basics. Also, patience is the key to achieving a student's confidence.…

Firstly, a physics tutor should be able to explain concepts in his or her own words to provide an alternative perspective of it. Additionally, a tutor should allow time for a student to attempt the question by himself/herself and come in if he/she struggles. Secondly a tutor should be encouraging as sometimes it is not the content that is holding…

A tutor does much more than simply teach a subject. A teacher or even youtube can do that to a much greater degree. A teacher, teaches from the…

Inside Wyndham ValeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Lachlan worked on analysing the structure and poetic devices in "Bushfires, rushing rivers of hell" and then composed his own free-verse poem using an emotion as inspiration.

In Year 9, Aiden practiced solving linear equations and reviewed key concepts from recent algebra homework to strengthen foundational skills.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Olivia focused on identifying properties of 2D shapes such as corners and sides, and practiced counting patterns by going backwards in the hundreds for number fluency.

Recent Challenges

Several students in Years 7–12 showed process gaps impacting their progress.

One Year 9 student's algebra work lacked neatness and clarity, with "pen & paper needs work," making it hard to trace errors or revise efficiently.

In Year 10, another rarely dated notes or included teacher comments—this made revisiting class discussions and tracking progress over time difficult.

A Year 11 student skipped back-checking after questions in trigonometry, so sign errors lingered undetected; as one tutor observed, "must start Back Checking after each question."

Without these process habits, confusion persisted during revision and test preparation.

In primary levels, a Year 4 student's homework was often disorganized: answers weren't shown alongside working out, which made error correction challenging and feedback less effective.

Meanwhile, a younger learner hesitated to write ideas down if unsure—a moment of silence rather than risking visible mistakes—so practice opportunities slipped by unnoticed.

Recent Achievements

A Wyndham Vale tutor recently noticed Aiden's improvement in high school maths: after struggling with area and perimeter, he now solves these problems more accurately and identifies where he needs extra help, showing real self-awareness.

In another session, Lachlan actively asks follow-up questions during geometry lessons and even corrects his own misconceptions as they arise.

For a younger learner, Olivia now confidently works through the process out loud and completes her homework independently.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Calvin and Gabby are working well together. Gabby even got an award at school. We are happy with the way things are going at the moment

Barbara tells me that she is understanding and Erin is lovely. So far so good .

All going well for us at present thank you, Alice seems happy and likes Kelsey so we will keep at it.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Manor Lakes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Christway College - Wyndham.
