Tutoring is more than just teaching content, it's about teaching a person. And that requires understanding, compassion and patience. I understand, that a good tutor is intelligent and knowledgeable. However, a great tutor is one which is able to listen, understand and empathise. A great tutor should be able to place themselves in the shoes of…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to let them learn on their own. I think the best tutors know how to balance their student's learning pace by guiding them only when they have to. This helps the student learn on their own, and, as a result, learn more efficiently. My strength as a tutor is how I communicate concepts. I…

I believe that the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to understand how they think and explain concepts clearly. I think that tutors should be responsible for knowing what levels their students are at and finding the best ways to make their learning process more engaging as well as guiding them through difficult tasks. Tutors…

Tutors need to be understanding and patient while knowing that students may not have the required knowledge to solve a simple question quickly. They may also have knowledge gaps which the tutor will need to discover and revise with the student for their question solving ability to improve. So most importantly, a tutor needs to ensure students are…

Every student have different abilities and way of understanding things. One of the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to make students comfortable with learning in the subjects and guide them to keep on track in their studies. Encouraging independence is significant. Students should be introduced to strategies to be independent and more effective learners. I believe tutors pass on a sense of confidence to their students as they develop their skills. Inside YagoonaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Tia focused on algebra, including expansion and factorisation, as well as probability using Venn diagrams and tree diagrams to support understanding.

For Year 9, Natalia revised equations and area concepts, then applied algebraic techniques through word problems.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Marcus practised converting between millimetres, centimetres, and kilometres for measurement tasks and worked on interpreting bar graphs and line graphs to build data literacy.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, one student repeatedly skipped planning before writing scripts, preferring to "jump straight into the draft," which made structuring arguments difficult.

A Year 10 learner misplaced assigned worksheets and arrived without required homework—organization is a clear obstacle in this case.

For a Year 8 maths quiz, overconfidence led to missed marks; "he could easily have gotten more if he took the time to check his answers."

In primary years, forgetting rules for basic multiplication and measurement (Year 4) meant progress slowed even after reminders. These habits resulted in lost time re-explaining concepts or revisiting basics instead of moving forward.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Yagoona recently saw Joel, a Year 10 student, begin spotting and fixing his own run-on sentences—a shift from earlier sessions where he waited for corrections.

Sriyan, who's in high school, remembered and correctly applied the rule for adding unlike fractions without prompting this week, having previously needed reminders each time.

Meanwhile, Ellena (Year 4) surprised her tutor by voluntarily completing extra homework and finishing it ahead of schedule—she used to need lots of encouragement just to start on tasks.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

My son Joshua had Tu as a tutor and he had great results. He responded well to Tu as a teacher, his marks improved and he gained confidence through the tutoring.

We were very happy with your company and my daughter's tutor, Daniel. There was an obvious improvement in my daughter's performance and attitude towards maths as reflected in her end of year report.

Meagan has started off with a good start to her Maths with the help from Ma. She is a brilliant Tutor and lovely girl we are extremely happy and would recommend her to anyone. We are really pleased to-date.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Canterbury Bankstown Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like Yagoona Public School.
