Being a tutor is a responsible job and requires lots of time devoted to be available when the student needs help with their studies. I believe it is important for a tutor to understand a student's needs and plan the teaching process in such a way where the student can benefit the most. To me the most important thing a tutor can teach a student is to be confident while applying new knowledge. I am a strong believer that tutors should not only be teachers of knowledge but be mentors to the their students. From my past experience the students I taught, although, picked up new knowledge easily but got scared under pressure. It has…

Being the middle ground between self-learning and learning in a classroom. A tutor not only teaches but functions as an advisor of sorts because a tutor was once or still is a student. Because of that, he or she can acutely understand the mindset of another student, since they may have had that same mindset only recently. I am articulate, being…

I consider making learning fun (less stressful from the point of view) and to learn by heart are the most important (intangible) things that a tutor can do for or impart to a student. Let the student enjoy learning so he/she would continue pursuing knowledge and learn not by memorizing, especially in the case for math subjects, so he/she would be…

Teachers must guide their students. They must act as a role model. They must be soft and gentle with the kids. They should be able to understand where every student comes from. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student well enough so that he/she no longer needs a tutor and is able to independently accumulate knowledge most of the time. Self-sufficiency ,in my opinion, is the most valuable skill a student should have and a good tutor empowers their students to cultivate it. According to famed…

Inside YennoraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Alex practised counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s as well as tackling simple addition problems above 10.

In Year 9, Mia worked through linear equations and inequalities, focusing on graphing lines and interpreting solutions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Jayden explored trigonometry topics including bearings and directions, using exact values with trig ratios to solve application questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Mathematics, one student's tendency to rely on a calculator for basic arithmetic slowed their progress with fractions—"she reached for the calculator even on single-digit sums," as noted.

A Year 10 student often left working out messy or incomplete during algebraic problem solving, which led to confusion and repeated errors when reviewing homework.

In Senior Mathematics, several students only practiced familiar question types in revision sessions, avoiding more challenging "word-dense" probability and surds problems; this meant they missed exposure to complex exam-style tasks.

Missed opportunities to use feedback or self-correct resulted in persistent misunderstandings.

Recent Achievements

One Yennora tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who had previously hesitated to use her calculator now reaching for it confidently when tackling more complex algebraic questions, showing new independence in problem-solving.

In another high school session, a student who used to struggle with linear equations began working through simultaneous equations without prompting, asking the tutor to check only their final answers rather than every step.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student was able to read aloud fluidly using their finger as a guide—a small but important change after earlier difficulties keeping track on the page—culminating in them finishing an entire chapter without losing their place.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Yes Daisy is a good tutor and seems to work great with the younger children.  I was very happy with her for David.

I've not actually met Tevita myself but both Ashleigh and my husband Adam have nothing but good things to say about him.  Ashleigh is very happy with his tutoring so far and seems to have a better understanding of the maths subjects she is doing.

We are very impressed with Jason and Scott enjoys the sessions with him which is great. Thanks.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fairfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Yennora Public School.
