To me, the two most important things are patience and encouragement. As a tutor, I will try my best to explain things to them so that they can have a good learning environment after school. Patience and kindness are my strengths when doing tutoring. I also believe that I can communicate effectively with children, which means I can listen to them…

I think the most important thing is the personalized experience a tutor can give a student. Tutors have a responsibility to create a positive learning environment for the student and understand their personalities. This way tutors can help the students as an individual on their personal weaknesses and help then grow. I think my strongest strength…

Helping a student work out a problem by shaping how they think instead of giving them the answers straightaway when they do not understand the questions. It is also important to understand the student's learning curve to teach them in their pace. I understand how to breakdown a problem and correlate it to something that makes it easier for…

Make the student fall in love with the subject. If this occurs, the student will be curious for the rest of his life, and the student will look for answers. The most important gift we can give the future generation is education. I'm a patient person. I'm aware of what I know and what I don't. If I don't know something, I make sure I understand it…

I believe being a good role model for a student is the most important thing a tutor can do. When a tutor serves as a positive role model, they provide students with an example to embrace and emulate. A tutor can influence a student's behavior, mindset, and work ethic through their actions and the way they present themselves. Throughout my diverse…

A tutor must always have patience for their students. They cannot rush them, and a student cannot be forced to understand specific content. I believe that tutors must friendly, approachable and sociable people who the student can feel comfortable around, for a relaxed learning environment. I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make that student interested in what they are learning. Although students may not enjoy every aspect of what they're learning, if they can find even one thing that they enjoy, this could be enough. I am patient, determined, and kind to those that I tutor. So, I think that…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to acknowledge & implement the way that works best for the student to learn based on their struggles, weaknesses, and also strengths. For example, if a student struggles in memorisation, then creating a storyline would make them understand better. A tutor must not only be smart &…

1. Revise fundamental concepts as they are essential to solve more complex problems. 2. Always break down the question before trying to solve problems. This makes the problem become simpler to solve and stimulates recall of the basic concepts that they have learnt before. 3. Always summarise what has been learnt as this helps to consolidate…

Local Reviews

Rosie is tutoring my child in year 7 maths and has built up a great rapport with her. Through my observations I can see that Rosie has a strong understanding of maths and is able to explain ideas and concepts very easily. She has a lot of patience and always checks my daughters understanding and offers alternative explanations where needed. Rosie is always punctual, friendly and polite and I am very happy with the progress that has been made to date.

Inside ZetlandTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student William worked on correcting homework covering simple interest and surds, along with catching up missed class content.

For Year 9, revision with Ben focused on dividing and multiplying fractions as well as tackling negative and fractional indices in surds.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Xavier practised converting remainders into decimals, solved word problems, and labelled different types of triangles using diagrams to support understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student left several steps unwritten when tackling algebraic equations, as one tutor noted: "he tried to do everything in his head instead of writing it down." This led to confusion over signs and made errors harder to spot.

In Year 11, incomplete homework meant that basic perfect square practice was missed, so extra time had to be spent revisiting foundational rules rather than progressing.

Meanwhile, a primary student working on division often forgot her materials at home, causing delays while searching for worksheets and slowing the start of each session.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Zetland noted that William, a Year 10 student, has started attempting every maths question instead of skipping the tough ones—a real shift from earlier sessions when he'd often give up if stuck.

In Year 11, after struggling with surd problems last term, he was able to recall the steps and solve similar questions independently this week, using his own notes for support.

Meanwhile, Elliott (Year 5) used to stay quiet during lessons but now openly talks through his reasoning on each English question and even asks for extra examples when something feels tricky. Last session, he wrote down all his ideas without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with AiPing, she works the boys hard and seems to be very knowledgeable.

So far we are extremely happy with Sarah. As you said, it is very early days, but so far so good. Mackenzie is very comfortable with her and feeling very positive about having Sarah as his new tutor. She is always punctual and friendly. And she has taken on some extra sessions with Mack over the school holidays which has been very helpful. I look forward to getting a couple of months tutoring under our belt to hopefully see some progress.

Thank you for your email.  Things are going well with the tutoring and Christian is a capable young man, as you say it will take time to see an improvement. Hopefully after that time, Kimberley will be feeling more confident.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Green Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Green Square Public School.
