I think the most important things a chemistry tutor can do are to make learning clear, build the student’s confidence, and be patient and supportive. A good tutor helps students understand rather than just memorise, encourages questions, and creates a comfortable space where students feel confident to learn and improve. I think my strengths as a…

Modern curriculum is mostly based on a thought process that works for most students. But not for all, and school teachers don't usually have the capacity to take care of all the students individually. That's where a chemistry tutor can help. Everybody thinks about and understand scientific ideas and theories in their own, personal way. A tutor…

I think that a chemistry tutor should be approachable - the student shouldn't be afraid to say that they don't understand something. After all, the tutor is there to help the student through any new concepts and ensure that they are taught in an easy to understand way. The tutor should be able to adapt to the student's most effective learning…

Be adaptable. Everyone learns differently and it is the tutor's job to be able to work with the different learning styles. I find that this is the most challenging to get the grasp of as it varies widely across all sorts of students, however, once a chemistry tutor learns how a student processes different problems and is able to cater their…

The most important thing that a chemistry tutor can do for the students is to motivate and encourage them to do their best. I believe that results are mostly achieved through the effort of the students themselves, so as a tutor I try my best to cover all the concepts and to provide my students with support materials, but I also make sure that my…

As a chemistry tutor, I could assist students to understand their subjects by motivating them involving an interactive class with students. When I went to tutoring, I had the best experience by having a very motivated, interactive and interesting tutor. I will try to become one of them though I'm still yet to gain formal experience of tutoring In…

Additionally, promote analytical thinking and problem-solving skills rather than just memorisation of facts. And finally, offer emotional support and encouragement, helping students manage stress and…

I think the most important role of the tutor is to analyse and reflect on a student's learning and problem-solving approach methods, in order to provide meaningful adjustments for greater comfort and confidence going forward. In other words, the identification of barriers to learning is the most crucial point of a chemistry tutor's action, as it…

The most important things a chemistry tutor can do could be split into two parts. Academically, tutors are there to help the student to learn all the knowledge required for them to achieve better grades. Spiritually, tutors are there as mentors, which they need to encourage the student to achieve their full potential, because usually due to exam…

Listen. Every student excels in some ways and does not in others. This emphasises the importance for a chemistry tutor to present ideas in ways which allow the student to learn them in the most efficient and effective ways. This also ensures that the tutor does not repeat anything the student already knows and identifies what the student has yet…

To assist them in the holistic learning process. I believe my strengths as a tutor includes the ability to empathise with…

Many students disengage from the learning environment when they experience confusion or fear making mistakes, often due to inadequate academic support or negative reinforcement when they are incorrect. Great initial one to one contact - named emails, not just from "Ezymath". Good support materials to read through and help understand expectations and requirements. Great tutor. Works brilliantly with my daughter, professional and prompt.
Gina, Aberfoyle Park

Inside Aberfoyle ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Emily worked on building confidence with multiplication and division, as well as understanding decimals through hands-on examples.

In Year 9, Sam focused on solving linear equations and was introduced to the basics of trigonometry using right-angled triangle diagrams.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Grace tackled derivatives from first principles and explored unit circle trigonometry, practising both algebraic methods and sketching relevant graphs.

Recent Challenges

Several students across Years 4 to 12 faced process obstacles that affected their progress.

For example, a Year 8 student's algebra solutions were hard to follow due to messy working and "writing out of order," making errors harder to spot and fix.

In Year 11 Specialist Maths, one student did not ask for extra paper during a test after running out of space—"she kept writing cramped answers in the margin," which led to incomplete responses.

Another, in Year 5, regularly forgot to bring maths materials, causing lost time at lesson start.

When tackling derivatives in Year 12 Methods, skipping intermediate steps meant confusion over which variables had been substituted.

Recent Achievements

One Aberfoyle Park tutor noticed a big change with a Year 10 student who used to rush through linear equations but now takes time to write out each step, leading to far fewer mistakes.

In a recent Year 12 session, a student who previously hesitated to ask for help started openly talking through problems aloud, which helped clarify their understanding of polynomial derivatives and unit circle diagrams.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who struggled with short division has begun using multiples of ten confidently when dividing larger numbers—something they avoided before—and managed to finish independently an entire worksheet.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Aberfoyle Park (The Hub) Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Aberfoyle Hub Primary School.
