In my opinion, tutors must prioritize "learning by fun" and create an environment for the students that enable them to be active and to participate in class room activities. In addition to it, tutors must inculcate modern ways and an open attitude to deal with students of the twenty first century. The fact that I tend to keep a strong heart and an…

Education can be extremely enjoyable but, understandably, if students cannot grasp concepts and ideas, they quickly lose interest. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to show their students that learning can actually be fun by teaching them about new ways of thinking. This, in turn, would help them engage in the content of a…

The most essential thing a tutor can do for a student is listen and notice how their patterns function because each student is unique and can thrive at any topic if given the correct tools and incentives, which a tutor can offer. Help them gain confidence, and for them to do the best they can. Students that require tutoring are often ones that lack confidence in a subject area. Tutors are there to strengthen and encourage them. Breaking down difficult concepts and passing on my knowledge to students. Also, finding where a student has difficulty and working with them to…

I believe that the main role for a tutor in terms of helping a student is being able to cover certain topics or answer certain questions that the student may not have fully understood at school, and to also summarize any new topics learned during the day. Though I have not begun tutoring yet, I would like to say that my strengths would be my…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide support and encouragement. I believe that the capacity to build strong, personal relationships with their students can inspire them to work to the best of their ability and succeed. Moreover, this also allows the tutor to more easily recognise the student's strengths and weaknesses and adapt to whatever they may need best. I am a very adaptable person that can shift my…

A tutor shouldn't be the individual who would only be associated with studies and stuff. A tutor should be someone to whom a student can approach with any sorts of problem with the expectation that their tutor can find a solution to it. Moreover, a tutor should be a guiding light to the student. - Communication - Experience -…

I would say understanding student's problem is the most important to help a student. Student's problem can be in the subject matter itself, or way the subject is delivered. Some may prefer more theory in the beginning, and some may prefer tutorial way of learning. So, tutoring should be tailor-made to a student for best learning experience. As a…

One of the most important things a teacher can do for their student is to listen. Not to listen to think of the next response but to listen to understand. Inside AlbanvaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ashan focused on calculating unknown angles using rules for straight lines and circles, then planned a TEEL paragraph and introduction for an essay on school uniforms.

Another Year 7 student reviewed complementary and supplementary angles as well as identifying corresponding, alternate, co-interior, and vertically opposite angles, while also practicing debate rebuttals and public speaking.

For Year 10, Steph worked through enzyme function in biology using test questions to prepare for her upcoming SAC, alongside revision of data analysis techniques such as linear regression and median smoothing.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was observed frequently solving maths problems in his head—especially with algebra and angles—leading to confusion when several steps were needed. As a tutor wrote, "he likes to do calculations in his head, but he's not ready for that yet." This habit meant errors weren't easily spotted or fixed.

In English, he generated strong ideas for persuasive writing but struggled to organize them logically, sometimes "jumping" between points without smooth transitions.

On a senior level, another student hesitated to let the tutor check their work during fractions tasks; this avoidance blocked helpful feedback and slowed improvement.

Recent Achievements

One Albanvale tutor recently noticed a real shift in a Year 7 student's approach to angle problems: after repeatedly mixing up how to label angles, he took on new strategies and now draws and explains them accurately without prompting.

In high school maths, another student who previously glossed over "silly mistakes" began pausing to spot errors himself—he not only corrected his own work but could clearly explain where he went wrong.

Meanwhile, during an English session with a younger learner, the student moved from simply stating opinions to independently structuring a full argument paragraph for the first time.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Daman was tutoring me in math to help me pass an army test and i ended up passing my test last week. He has helped me improve in math which I've been struggling with when growing up and as I will now be teaching myself improve more and more in math using his method as I believe it really helped me. I wouldn't have passed the test without him so hats off to this bloke.

Jason has been to our home 3 times now and we could not be more pleased. He is a very polite respectful young guy. More importantly Matthew really likes him and says is he is really helping him. Jason said today that he could see improvement. More than happy to continue.

Adrianna has only had the 1 lesson with Lidia. She was fabulous. Adrianna was keen to see her again. We did see improvement just after the first visit.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Deer Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Albanvale Primary School.
