I consider that helping them to understand the concept by themselves instead of doing their job, is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student because that is the way they learn. Also, giving a positive and encouraging environment makes them feel comfortable in the tutoring session. -Experience of more than nine years. -Major strongly…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence in learning and foster a genuine interest in the subject. I think a tutor doesn’t just help with academic skills, but they also create a safe and encouraging space where students feel heard, supported, and motivated to improve. By identifying a…

In my opinion, guiding the student to being able to help himself or herself is the most crucial aspect in teaching. In other words, teaching the student to learn things on their own is what makes teaching so powerful. Firstly I am patient with students to a certain degree. This allows me to make the most out of the time I teach and contribute to…

To be able to connect with the kids/student, making an environment where they are excited and enjoy studying, while being able to speak up on their doubts. I connect with the kids quite well. I'm quite a creative thinker myself, especially when on the methods to get myself to understand and memorise topics. Hence, I can use this to my advantage…

The tutor has so many key responsibilities and actions to do. As he/she needs to aware that individuals are understanding, there should be effective communication, setting realistic goals, creating a supportive environment and also providing them a constructive feedback. Try make tutoring fun, students no matter how hard you try will not retain information and be willing to learn if they are really against it. So by presenting the content in a fun but still effective manner, it is bound to show results. The most important thing when it comes to content is to not spoon feed them with the right answers, you need…

Teaching them the curriculum and making them score higher is not alone enough making them realize what they are capable of. Not every student are good with their IQ, their IQ Capacity does not judge what they can do. I think patience and the ability to catch the exact needs of the students are the most important things a tutor can do for a student. Since every student has different learning styles and speed when understanding a concept, patience is a key requirement in order to go along with the student's speed. Furthermore, the ability to fulfil the exact…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be proud of all the improvements the student has done. It's not about congratulating them for being a high achieving student. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is building their confidence. I believe in rewarding students for their hard work - wether if its a small chocolate bar, or even just a compliment. As small as it may sound, this can be essential for the students' confidence, which will naturally encourage them to achieve better results. It…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build the student’s confidence and help them believe in their ability to improve. Academic support is important, but equally vital is the emotional support that motivates a student to keep going even when they’re struggling. A good tutor doesn’t just provide answers — they teach students…

Zacharo, Albert Park

Inside Albert ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Eliza focused on right-angled triangle trigonometry, using sine, cosine, and tangent to find unknown sides and angles, and practised interpreting worded problems involving true bearings.

Year 10 student Olivia worked through quadratic equations by completing the square and factorisation in preparation for a test, as well as reviewing the expansion of quadratics.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Max tackled logarithms—covering concepts and worksheet practice—before moving on to applications of differentiation for polynomials.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing a statistics assignment sometimes left analysis sections unfinished or only in dot points, as noted: "Convert dot point ideas into sentences & paragraphs." This led to feedback being delayed and made self-review harder.

In Year 9, another student's exam revision was inconsistent—practice focused on familiar networks content rather than trickier trigonometry and matrix multiplication.

For a Year 8 maths task, one student relied heavily on calculator shortcuts during matrix questions ("more practice is needed on calculator"), which hid gaps in understanding when the method changed.

Missed opportunities for deeper learning appeared across multiple years when written work stayed incomplete or revision avoided less confident topics.

Recent Achievements

One Albert Park tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to mix up x and y coordinates now reliably applies the correct formulas for midpoint, distance, and gradient, even graphing without errors.

A Year 12 student who previously hesitated to ask questions about differentiation is now tackling polynomial problems independently and recently explained the tangent–secant relationship back to the tutor unprompted.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 7 has shifted from guessing angles in triangles to methodically identifying sides using SOHCAHTOA before solving for missing values—last session, she found all missing angles herself on the first try.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Albert Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Albert Park Primary School.
