I have always had a knack for providing a new and creative approach to a challenging problem. I believe that even if a child is positive they do not understand a topic, that I will be able to find a way their brain can understand it. One of my revision methods throughout year 12 was to teach my friends and family my coursework to solidify my…

The most important thing of a tutor is the ability to impart knowledge in a suitable, correct and effective way to the students. Good knowledge is important, but without the ability to impart knowledge, teaching will never be successful. I have 4 main strengths. Firstly, I love children and love teaching. Secondly, I have high patience and am…

I think the most important steps are, making sure the student has understood, even if you have to re-explain the concept an n number of times or in a multiple different ways, and providing support whenever the student needs it. I hate tutors that charge for help given outside of their class times, or those who specifically arrange for short…

I think the tutor should be able to motivate the student to be self learning. This can be done by certainly giving them a basic and foundation. Let them to engaging in learning and materials so that they will not feel they are behind and given up. A tutor is responsible to guide their student in learnings, not to show them solutions. …

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is getting to know and understand each specific student in depth. As every person learns differently, it's important for tutors to understand their individual students because this what separates a tutor from a teacher, the personalized teaching style. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to first be understanding as each student has different experiences with learning subjects and may also have problems outside of education. Secondly would be to be approachable and appear easy-going so the student will not be intimidated or scared in having learning sessions with you.…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to clear the concepts. If a student knows the concept well then he/she can apply it to any problem pertaining to a particular topic. A tutor can do this by giving real world examples and discussing about the topic in general. Math is one of the most fun subjects to learn if one understands…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are assisting them with their studies and provide comfort. I do not think tutors should spoon-feed answers to students as that will not help them fully understand and learn. Other than that, I believe the ability to comfort and reassure students is extremely important for tutors. I have met…

This supportive atmosphere allows the tutor to identify and address the student’s mistakes while helping develop their critical thinking and…

A good tutor needs to know the content, but more importantly, they need to identify gaps in the student's understanding, even when the students aren't sure where they're struggling. As their tutor, I will ask some surface level questions on different parts of the topics to gauge their understanding. I would consider myself a patient type of…

Critcal thinking and the method of approching to problems are what I think the most important in doing maths. Answers to the problem without critcal thinking is generally useless. I believe striking a balance in how the tutor interacts with a student is key. Being able to listen and identify a student's problem areas, as well as being firm enough to hold their attention is vital. A good tutor can set expectations tailored to a student's abilities and with them raise them while boosting their confidence. Overall personality…

I think the most important role of the tutor is to analyse and reflect on a student's learning and problem-solving approach methods, in order to provide meaningful adjustments for greater comfort and confidence going forward. In other words, the identification of barriers to learning is the most crucial point of a tutor's action, as it is the…

Zacharo, Albert Park

Inside Albert ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Eliza focused on right-angled triangle trigonometry, using sine, cosine, and tangent to find unknown sides and angles, and practised interpreting worded problems involving true bearings.

Year 10 student Olivia worked through quadratic equations by completing the square and factorisation in preparation for a test, as well as reviewing the expansion of quadratics.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Max tackled logarithms—covering concepts and worksheet practice—before moving on to applications of differentiation for polynomials.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing a statistics assignment sometimes left analysis sections unfinished or only in dot points, as noted: "Convert dot point ideas into sentences & paragraphs." This led to feedback being delayed and made self-review harder.

In Year 9, another student's exam revision was inconsistent—practice focused on familiar networks content rather than trickier trigonometry and matrix multiplication.

For a Year 8 maths task, one student relied heavily on calculator shortcuts during matrix questions ("more practice is needed on calculator"), which hid gaps in understanding when the method changed.

Missed opportunities for deeper learning appeared across multiple years when written work stayed incomplete or revision avoided less confident topics.

Recent Achievements

One Albert Park tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to mix up x and y coordinates now reliably applies the correct formulas for midpoint, distance, and gradient, even graphing without errors.

A Year 12 student who previously hesitated to ask questions about differentiation is now tackling polynomial problems independently and recently explained the tangent–secant relationship back to the tutor unprompted.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 7 has shifted from guessing angles in triangles to methodically identifying sides using SOHCAHTOA before solving for missing values—last session, she found all missing angles herself on the first try.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Albert Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Albert Park Primary School.
