A tutor's greatest contribution is to give students confidence in their upcoming studies. In addition to teaching academic knowledge, tutors need to point out directions for students and divide difficult tasks into steps to cultivate students' problem-solving ability. I have sufficient experience in counseling teenagers, I am good at communicating…

In my opinion, a tutor needs to really be a friend who is reliable and helpful for his/her students. A tutor should be able to help the students to deeply understand the content of the subject so they can perform better in class. I am a calm and friendly person and I believe that it will help a lot when I tutor other students. I also like to build…

A tutor must be able to secure a positive impression of the subject in the student's mind, regardless of how arduous the subject content might be. A tutor is a third parent and must have immense patience to ensure that the child grasps each and every detail, even if they ask us to repeat what we taught. Besides, as tutors, we must always advocate…

Be a good listener and open-minded to gain clarity on the student’s thoughts and feelings. This gives them an opportunity to elaborate on the topic. Empathy. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is to impact positively on the life of the student and bring about a change. Other than helping a student reach their academic potential, a tutor can help him or her develop other skills such as critical thinking, time management and effective study skills other than rote…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to kindle in them a curiosity for the world around them and to guide them in looking for answers. I do not believe in the teach-to-test approach. Instead, I believe that teaching should not be compared to filling a bottle with water but rather to helping a flower grow in its own way. As…

After the first months of tutoring passed by I noticed that what most students necessitate was a method, a fixed pattern to follow whilst studying. Then, my objective became to teach students how to learn properly: my aim was to assist them in finding their own way of studying and learning. Beyond imparting subject knowledge, a tutor should instill a passion for the subject, helping…

I believe it's crucial for the instructor to first comprehend the student. As a former tutor, I am of the opinion that not every lesson is fully understood by students the first time around. The tutor must make sure to reiterate everything till the student is able to grasp it. As was previously mentioned, a tutor must be on time and patient with…

I believe that building a strong teacher-student relationship is the most important thing. Most students who seek for tutoring are either aiming to break their limits, or catch up with others. Both motivation requires significant support from their peers, thus, as a tutor, building a strong TSR can robustly improve students' learning motivation.…

A teacher needs to be friendly, interactive at the same time authoritarian in a positive way. A teacher cannot do much if a student do not co-operates. Inside Albert ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Eliza focused on right-angled triangle trigonometry, using sine, cosine, and tangent to find unknown sides and angles, and practised interpreting worded problems involving true bearings.

Year 10 student Olivia worked through quadratic equations by completing the square and factorisation in preparation for a test, as well as reviewing the expansion of quadratics.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Max tackled logarithms—covering concepts and worksheet practice—before moving on to applications of differentiation for polynomials.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing a statistics assignment sometimes left analysis sections unfinished or only in dot points, as noted: "Convert dot point ideas into sentences & paragraphs." This led to feedback being delayed and made self-review harder.

In Year 9, another student's exam revision was inconsistent—practice focused on familiar networks content rather than trickier trigonometry and matrix multiplication.

For a Year 8 maths task, one student relied heavily on calculator shortcuts during matrix questions ("more practice is needed on calculator"), which hid gaps in understanding when the method changed.

Missed opportunities for deeper learning appeared across multiple years when written work stayed incomplete or revision avoided less confident topics.

Recent Achievements

One Albert Park tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to mix up x and y coordinates now reliably applies the correct formulas for midpoint, distance, and gradient, even graphing without errors.

A Year 12 student who previously hesitated to ask questions about differentiation is now tackling polynomial problems independently and recently explained the tangent–secant relationship back to the tutor unprompted.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 7 has shifted from guessing angles in triangles to methodically identifying sides using SOHCAHTOA before solving for missing values—last session, she found all missing angles herself on the first try.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Albert Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Albert Park Primary School.
