I bring strong organisational skills while adapting to the learning styles of the tutee. My creative background helps me come up with interesting learning methods. Through my…

Creating a safe and encouraging learning environment, fostering curiosity, and building a student’s confidence are some of the most important contributions a tutor can make. I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to help them understand the mathematical concepts as these concepts can be confusing if they are not explained properly. The misconceptions that students have will deter them from doing well and enjoy learning mathematics. I am a very patient person. If the student does not…

A good study habit. It is vital to grow their passion of studying rather than just teaching the knowledge. Therefore, I will try my best to bring them enjoyable study experience while maintaining high educational quality. I am an international student from China who has done high school here, thus, I have experienced both west and east education.…

As a tutor, the most important thing I can do for a student is to be available whenever they need me. In the past, students have had questions 1 hour before their exams. They have my number so they can contact me as needed and I will reply ASAP to explain what they are struggling with. To be a tutor is to be a source of knowledge that they can…

Most important thing a tutor can do for a student is making them feel that their all queries are valid and making them ask more and more questions without hesitation. Also patiently answering thier queries is most important. I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student’s confidence, make learning less intimidating,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them build confidence in their own abilities. When a student believes in themselves, they’re more likely to take on challenges, ask questions, and keep trying, even when things get tough. My strengths are patience, adaptability, and the ability to break down complex concepts in…

The most important things a tutor can do are to build the student’s confidence, foster independent thinking, and create a supportive learning environment. Tutoring should go beyond helping with a single problem—it should give students the tools and mindset to approach future challenges on their own. Encouraging curiosity, showing empathy, and…

I think stoking an interest in self education/exploration of a subject is more important than helping them simply pass a test (though that is important as well). When a student wants to research a topic on their own time, they not only have found a way to improve, but also might have found a future passion or career choice they never knew they…

Changing the perspective of the subject. I know too many teachers that have made an already challenging subject even more difficult. I want to be a tutor who encourages students to excel in math by demonstrating that it is not as difficult as it may seem. I believe that every subject has the potential to be made fun and exciting for any student, and so naturally the tutor should be able to be inspiring and excited to teach and learn alongside their pupil. Alongside this, tutors need to be adaptable, being willing to communicate to different students based on their levels and understanding, while…

Fostering an environment of growth is key: tutors need to encourage the student to ask questions, set realistic standards and recognise failure as the opportunity to learn. Seeing these mindsets shift within students is extremely rewarding as a teacher. In my experience of tutoring, it is less about showing the student what you know and…

For me, the most important thing is to show them and teach them to understand the process of the subject itself. This mean that they need to understand and see why and how the method works the way it is and why we teach the lesson this way. Another important factor is the student itself enjoying the lesson and learning process. This, for me can be…

I believe it is important to understand the student's weaknesses and strengths before starting to teach them. I have come across a common problem with students, which is that they often jump straight into trying to solve a problem without fully understanding the theory/basics first. Hence, I try to first help them understand the basics then go…

Zacharo, Albert Park

Inside Albert ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Eliza focused on right-angled triangle trigonometry, using sine, cosine, and tangent to find unknown sides and angles, and practised interpreting worded problems involving true bearings.

Year 10 student Olivia worked through quadratic equations by completing the square and factorisation in preparation for a test, as well as reviewing the expansion of quadratics.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Max tackled logarithms—covering concepts and worksheet practice—before moving on to applications of differentiation for polynomials.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing a statistics assignment sometimes left analysis sections unfinished or only in dot points, as noted: "Convert dot point ideas into sentences & paragraphs." This led to feedback being delayed and made self-review harder.

In Year 9, another student's exam revision was inconsistent—practice focused on familiar networks content rather than trickier trigonometry and matrix multiplication.

For a Year 8 maths task, one student relied heavily on calculator shortcuts during matrix questions ("more practice is needed on calculator"), which hid gaps in understanding when the method changed.

Missed opportunities for deeper learning appeared across multiple years when written work stayed incomplete or revision avoided less confident topics.

Recent Achievements

One Albert Park tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to mix up x and y coordinates now reliably applies the correct formulas for midpoint, distance, and gradient, even graphing without errors.

A Year 12 student who previously hesitated to ask questions about differentiation is now tackling polynomial problems independently and recently explained the tangent–secant relationship back to the tutor unprompted.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 7 has shifted from guessing angles in triangles to methodically identifying sides using SOHCAHTOA before solving for missing values—last session, she found all missing angles herself on the first try.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Albert Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Albert Park Primary School.
