What a maths tutor should and need to do are guiding a child to enhance their strengths and improve their weaknesses with all of the power invested in ourselves; reminding and figuring out what their barriers are to success (such as are they afraid of they can't pass? or they are not receiving any support from their beloved ones?). In my power,…

I believe that the three most important things that a maths tutor can do for a student, perhaps the only important things which a teacher should do, are to make students curious about what they are learning and appreciate the beauty of what they are learning by developing a way of thinking of their own. I understand and appreciate the beauty and…

The most important thing in teaching is to make the student believe that they will surpass any goals they set their minds into. Level communication in a way the students will be comfortable to interact with. It will be best if the students seek out help and teachers guide them into analyzing the problem themselves. This is when students start to…

Above all, I believe it is the moral support and social relationship as a mentor for the student. Ensuring that students aren't afraid to ask for help. It's vital that tutors reinforce the fact that we are there to help them and won't care at all if they make mistakes and that it's a necessary part of the learning process. This not only helps build a sense of rapport with the student, but it promotes efficient and effective learning. I think…

Inside ArdeerTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Sarah practised using the distributive law and calculating mean, median, and mode from small data sets.

Year 9 student Emily worked through Pythagoras' theorem applications and tackled questions on compass bearings with basic trigonometry, making use of diagrams for clarity.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Josh focused on solving quadratic inequalities and explored how the discriminant affects the number of solutions to a quadratic equation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often avoided completing maths homework, which made it hard to reinforce lesson content; as one tutor noted, "even if she is wrong, she should at least try."

In Year 11 physics, missing key gaps from previous years led to confusion when formulas needed to be applied—especially when independent reading was skipped.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner's tendency to erase and rewrite answers slowed progress in division tasks.

In English for Year 10, getting stuck on paragraph ideas during essay writing left the page blank far longer than necessary, sapping confidence for future attempts.

Recent Achievements

One Ardeer tutor noticed a Year 10 student who previously struggled to use formulas in maths now independently applies them to solve exam questions, leading to a near-perfect score of 36 out of 37 on their last assessment.

A Year 8 student, who often hesitated to ask for help before, has started voicing questions mid-session and now tackles probability problems confidently after repeated explanations finally clicked.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner—once needing step-by-step support—recently completed her multiplication tables with only minimal prompting and finished all assigned problems without errors.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Both of the tutors that you have sent have been fantastic - very knowledgeable, great with Ollie, could not be happier

I am very pleased with Gabrielle and so is Thomas, so a great start. Just having a  mentor has boasted Thomas's confidence enormously and I listen to how Gabrielle communicates with Thomas and I am amazed. Thomas is very happy.

I had one tutoring session with Tom and he was fantastic. Very easy to talk to and had clearly prepared before coming to see me. The exam that I needed his help to prepare for is this Thursday so I no longer need his services. I have told Tom I will let him know how I went after the exam on Thursday.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brimbank Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mother of God School.
