I believe explaining a concept in such a way that the student understands it intuitively and can thus use that understanding to solve different problems, rather than simply rote-learning a series of facts, is an incredibly important part of being a tutor. The tutor should be adding to a student's toolkit such that they can solve a variety of…

In my opinion, tutor must be patient and understanding towards a student. This allows the student to feel more comfortable with the tutor, which allows them to easily tell the tutor any troubles that they're having with their studies. A tutor should also have empathy and be a good listener for the student. Moreover, the tutor should also be…

I believe that it is important for a tutor to understand that each child is unique in their own way. They have different strengths and weaknesses and with that their own capacity of understanding. A tutor can spend time with students so that they can understand what the problem is. Moreover, a tutor is a person with whom every student feels safe, and they share everything, so the tutor must be calm and teach everything in a fun way. Personally, I believe in three things a good tutor can do for a student. First, Can Encourage every child understanding their speciality and treating them differently. The prevailing inherited difference in them is a mean to stimulus the school going students and that can be done by the tutor. Second, Can Motivate on every walk to the student…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen to them. Listening to them and understanding their point of view when something seems difficult for them, even when it isn't really from my perspective. Then combatting this problem by exploring different ways to present a difficult concept. I do this using analogies and using simple…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to be very clear and not convoluted when explaining topics, equations, etc. to students, as it can be very easy to get intimated as a student and end up confused. I believe it is also important not to assume any knowledge straight away from students but to intentionally ask what it is that they…

A tutor does not just teach a student a particular subject. I believe that the most important function of a tutor is to foster overall academic confidence in a student and to develop better study techniques/learning habits more generally. As a tutor the most important behaviour is to remain open and encouraging. This allows them to be honest and seek help when they need it rather than feeling embarrassed that they are struggling to understand a concept. Local Reviews

Xinchi has just been over again this evening and I would like to say what a lovely young man he is. He is very thorough, knows what he is teaching, and has a lovely manner. He has already built a nice rapport with Cameron. We are keen to see Cameron's progress under Xinchi's guidance.

Inside ArdrossTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jack worked on calculating area, length, and perimeter in measurement tasks and practiced geometric shapes and angles using diagrams.

In Year 8, Ava tackled linear equations and began exploring parabolas, followed by an investigation into geometric relationships in curves.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student focused on applying indices rules through BIMDAS operations and completed basic data analysis for an assignment using real-life scenarios.

Recent Challenges

Homework discipline was a challenge for one Year 9 student, as noted: "didn't do homework," which meant test preparation was incomplete—impacting recall of mean, median, and range.

In Year 7, confusion about decimal conversion led to hesitation during multi-step problems; "still unsure about decimals as well as making a few silly mistakes."

For a Year 11 learner, time management issues appeared in assignment work—longer tasks were left unfinished.

Organization and equation memory also slipped in senior years: one note recorded "needs work on remembering equations," especially under test pressure, leaving key steps missing from final answers.

Recent Achievements

One Ardross tutor noticed a big shift with Jack in Year 9—after weeks of hesitating on multi-step worded problems, he now breaks them down and solves them independently, catching his own mistakes as he works.

In Year 11 maths, Kara had struggled to remember the indice laws but can now explain and apply them correctly across different problems without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger student recently started choosing multiplication games over other activities, asking for harder times tables after initially avoiding them altogether. Last week she finished all her multiplication card challenges without needing hints.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are please to advise that Chelsea has been attending 2 x sessions with Shayikh and already are seeing results. Shayikh is an excellent tutor and we are happy with the outcome so far.

Very happy with Thien. My son has jumped from very bad marks in tests to getting high marks.

we are very pleased with the tutoring sessions Mario is providing. His tutoring has made a significant improvement to our daughters maths grades and has helped to increase our daughter's confidence with maths which she struggled with previously. He is also very patient, polite and punctual.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Civic Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mount Pleasant Primary School.
