It is important to build a relationship with the student and to always guide them but not push them to their limits. It is also important that the student understands how its done, while having them memorise a pattern is easy, allowing them to understand how to solve these types of questions will allow them to apply their solution to more things.…

I believe explaining a concept in such a way that the student understands it intuitively and can thus use that understanding to solve different problems, rather than simply rote-learning a series of facts, is an incredibly important part of being a tutor. The tutor should be adding to a student's toolkit such that they can solve a variety of…

I think the most important thing is for the student to truly understand what hes actually doing in the subject. Not just use the equations to solve test problems but to actually comprehend and appreciate the beautiful math and chemistry they're performing. Because I'm multilingual, fluent in Indonesian, English, Taiwanese, and Mandarin I can…

In addition to inculcating academic knowledge in students, a tutor can help students become more passionate towards a subject and can enable the student to grow as a holistic individual by providing moral support and mentorship for the student and helping the student grow in his/her values. I believe that I am extremely patient and do not mind…

Teach them skills to master the subject. Teach them life lessons as well - eg resilience. Teach them different ways to look at things. Be a friend/listening ear when they need. Patient and caring. I believe that caring about my student's overall wellbeing is just as important as their grades. Resilience, not all methods of teaching will work…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the subject more fun and appealing so that the students are not scared of the subject or run away from it. Since my undergraduate was in electrical engineering I am quite well versed in physics, chemistry and mathematics. I am still pursuing my masters degree so I know what the…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to approach topics that the student is finding difficult differently. When approaching the topic differently it can aid the student in seeing it from a different angle and which way they learn best. I am a very organised and patient person, that strives for the success of…

The most important things is to always be there to help your student even if sometimes you don't know the answer to everything. You should understand that the students look up to you for help and be ready to help them whenever required. You should be ready to listen to any problem they might have and understand that each student is different and…

I think patience is the biggest key factor as without that there can be no way a tutor could help a student. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the student want to study the subject, instead of relying on others for help. In other words, building a foundation of passion for the subject. I believe that my strengths are trying to get the student to not just repeat practice questions, but also try to understand the…

Tutors have two roles, One is to actively support the student who might be struggling to cope up with their peers and/or looking to improve their performance. The second is to make the student learn in a different environment from their school. Schools have multiple children and every child has some issue they are facing. As a tutor sitting 1-1…

I reckon the most crucial role for a tutor is to inspire a love for learning by making lessons interesting and relevant. I believe a tutor should create a positive and encouraging environment where the student feels safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn at their own pace. I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do is care and be dedicated. I think you have to really care about the student doing well rather than just focusing on the payment, a tutor should also be dedicated to the student so that they get the best service and help possible. Local Reviews

Angela has been tutoring our daughter for several weeks now and we think she is amazing. We have seen a huge improvement in our daughters math work. Angela puts a lot of thought and effort into her lesson planning eg. bringing worksheets, a white board, worksheets and visuals to make things easier for our daughter to learn. Angela also has a very gentle, patient and friendly manner which is also very important to us. We are so happy with Angela and highly recommend her.
Debbie, Attadale

Inside AttadaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Charlotte focused on converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages as well as tackling measurement conversions such as millimetres to kilometres.

In Year 8, Olivia worked through area and circumference of circles using formulae, alongside practice with surface area and volume for composite shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Ben reviewed indices rules and prime factorisation to determine if a fraction would become a recurring or terminating decimal.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student, when faced with multi-step fraction and percentage problems, hesitated to show her working—leading to confusion about which operation to use next. As a tutor noted, "she sometimes slips up with applying the correct operation (+, –, ×, ÷) to a line of working."

In Year 10 algebra lessons, another student avoided writing steps for rearranging equations; this slowed progress as small sign errors went unnoticed until checking answers at the end.

Meanwhile, missed sessions without notice (noted in Years 6 and 9) meant gaps in revision and lost opportunities for targeted feedback before upcoming tests.

Recent Achievements

One Attadale tutor noticed Poppy, a high school student, taking real initiative with algebra—she's now more comfortable rearranging equations and is starting to solve for x with less prompting than before.

Chloe, also in high school, has become much quicker at converting fractions to equivalent forms when adding or subtracting, something she used to hesitate over.

Meanwhile, Riva in primary school was excited to show off her mastery of the grid strategy for double- and triple-digit multiplication; this time, she applied it independently across several problems without needing reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as AH Bracks Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Attadale Primary School.
