The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to create a general interest for the subject they're studying, where the student does not dread their tutoring time but instead look forward to learning more and more. In my opinion, tutoring is not only about improving the student's grades or having extra help, but it is also a way…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do for students is to understand them, as no students are same and everyone requires different approach to be able to learn. I think a physics tutor can help a student to boost confidence in a situation where a little more dedicated time and effort could make possible. A tutor can develop a learning strategy that the student can follow, to make a difficult or boring subject easier and interesting to learn. Undivided attention by a tutor, which would help the…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do is to teach in a way suited to the student. The content being taught doesn't matter if the student isn't being perceptive to it, so a tutor must find a way to teach that accommodates for a student and how they prefer to learn. I think my greatest strengths are flexibility and knowledge of the…

Tanya, Atwell

Inside AtwellTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Emma explored the Fibonacci sequence through an investigation and practiced number patterns using hands-on examples.

In Year 9, James worked on gradients, midpoints, and calculating the length of lines, as well as solving algebraic equations step-by-step.

For Year 10, Olivia revised trigonometric ratios and their applications in right-angled triangles, then moved on to consolidating skills with similarity problems using diagrams for support.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 algebra, one student consistently avoided writing out working, preferring to "do it all in my head"—this led to confusion when combining x and y terms and made errors hard to spot.

For a Year 8 trigonometry task, skipping steps meant mistakes crept in unnoticed; as the tutor noted, "organising the solution better would help keep track of the thought process."

In a Year 11 statistics lesson, only revising familiar question types limited progress on new problems.

When tackling fractions in Year 7, one student's tendency to swap negative signs arose from trying to solve everything mentally instead of methodically on paper.

Recent Achievements

One Atwell tutor recently saw a big shift in Caitlin's approach: after struggling with her maths assessments, she went back and redid every problem she'd missed last time—and got them all right on her own.

With a Year 11 student, Emma, the notes show she used to mix up key points when graphing trig functions but now quickly identifies and plots each type without needing reminders.

In a lower year group, David had difficulty understanding how values affect the mean in statistics; now he explains his reasoning out loud as he solves new questions.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We really appreciated Arman‘s efforts and enthusiasm even when Aby was playing up. He is a wonderful teacher!

She is one of the finest tutors I have seen. Her consistency and persistent attitude towards the children growth makes her exceptional. Because of her, my niece developed confidence in all phases of education.

Stephanie our tutor for Loki has been great. Loki is enjoying the sessions and in the short time we have seen him becoming more confident. Truly appreciate your assistance in getting Loki up to speed. Rest assured if I hear of anyone looking for a tutor I will send them your way!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Success Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Atwell Primary School.
