I feel that the ability to carefully understand the certain needs and goals of each student and provide particular guidance and assistance a long the way to achieving these goals is crucial in tutoring, rather than…

Not give the answers but help support the learning process and give guidance when the child needs it most. There is a difference between doing all the work for the child and actually teaching how the problem can be approached and observing how the student does it him/herself. If the child is stuck on a concept, it is my responsibility to help the…

I think a tutor has to be such kind of person who can unwillingly be able to establish himself/ herself as a role model to follow which will guarantee the success of the the student in the future. My personal opinion on me is I can understand the problem being faced by the students despite their denial about the problem and eventually bring them…

The most important thing for a tutor to do for a student is providing as much information as they can. I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is be supportive. Students are already frustrated when they do not understand something, hence we do not need to add to that by being frustrated at them. In addition, a tutor needs to be flexible. This allows one to better tailor the program to the student's needs and the student's strengths. I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is adapt to suit their needs. This may include using different communication methods, teaching at different paces and understanding the students…

It is important to be patient and approachable so that students feel comfortable coming to you with their queries. Availability and dependability is also important. As a tutor the best thing to do for the student is to be patient, resilient and adaptable. As each student has different learning styles you need to be observant and communicate with them as much as possible to ensure that they are optimising their learning. Furthermore, the tutor must be enthusiastic about the subject, if the student sees that…

Local Reviews

Efficiency in obtaining a face to face tutor.
guydobson, Balmain

Inside BalmainTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 Josh reviewed financial maths concepts like taxable income and revised coordinate geometry, including transformations on the number plane.

Year 9 Malissa practised writing speeches for English based on A Midsummer Night's Dream and worked through trigonometry problems using bearings.

For Year 8 Tom, recent sessions included algebraic equations revision ahead of a test and practice with area calculations for rectangles and triangles, often using diagrams to reinforce methods.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student was unable to specify what topics would be on her upcoming maths assessment, which limited targeted revision and left her less prepared—"in the future she really needs to know this because then we can do revision directly on the topics that she will be tested on."

In Year 9 English, another student's essay drafts lacked structure and clear topic sentences; over-description replaced use of language techniques.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student repeatedly zoned out during maths lessons, making it harder to retain new formulas for surface area and volume.

Missed opportunities for focused practice and feedback resulted in lingering uncertainty before tests.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Balmain noticed a big shift with one Year 11 student who, after weeks of hesitation, started actively asking questions during sessions and made real progress interpreting graphs on her own.

In Year 9, another student who used to rely heavily on hints for simultaneous equations began catching and correcting mistakes without prompting, especially when working through algebra problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student known for second-guessing himself surprised everyone by finishing an entire worksheet independently—only pausing to double-check his answers at the end.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Oscar is finding the tutoring very helpful in realizing he is able to "do maths". He is feeling a lot more positive in general at this time and we hope that the gradual improvement he makes will continue to provide a source of self belief and positive thinking. He is very comfortable working with Kirsty and is keen to continue with her.

I initially chose to work for EzyMath tutoring so that I could earn some extra money while attending university. The company most appealed to me with its flexible hours, and a clear idea of letting the tutor be in control of his own work. You could work as many hours as you wanted, and truly develop a personal relationship with your clients. The weekly modules provided by EzyMath ensured that I myself developed and learned along the way. For me, the greatest accomplishment was the transition into a fully coordinated and confident tutor in a manner of weeks. EzyMath truly turned me into a successful tutor who had a great relationship with his students. It was especially amazing to see that the people I taught were even a little upset when I could no longer continue working. Overall, I definitely recommend working for the company to any people who want to mature into successful tutors. Any parents who want their children to learn in a friendly yet structured environment; as well as working with someone who they can truly rely on should definitely contact EzyMath tutoring! I'm very grateful for this experience and all you help. Good luck to the company for all of its future endeavours.

Things are going well. No issues and Jacob is going into class with more confidence.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Balmain Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Birchgrove Public School.
