Inside Banksia BeachTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Jacob focused on differentiation techniques, including tangents to equations and sketching cubic functions, while also discussing his PSMT task.

Year 10 student Emily worked through solving trigonometric equations and explored some trigonometric identities using past lesson materials for review.

For a Year 7 session, Chloe tackled congruent shapes and triangles before moving on to calculating areas of circles and practicing index laws.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths, one student relied heavily on their calculator for simplification and rounding but was less confident when asked to work problems by hand; as the tutor observed, "while your calculator's good it's good to have that knowledge."

In Year 10, incomplete memorization of key formulas—like area and circumference of a circle—led to hesitancy during revision.

A Year 7 student struggled with layout: "Setting out of work needs some improvement," making errors harder to catch.

Meanwhile, a primary learner avoided practising unfamiliar multiplication tables at home, which left them less confident tackling worded questions in sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Banksia Beach tutor noticed a Year 11 student who had struggled with indices at first but, after some practice, was able to solve these problems independently and even explained her working out loud.

In a high school session, another student who used to quietly guess when unsure about tangents started asking clarifying questions and managed to work through both tangent and differentiation problems without prompting.

Meanwhile, in a primary session, a Year 4 learner who previously hesitated to share ideas began actively contributing during discussions and provided his own examples for the group to solve.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Cordelia is very happy with Rory's tutoring.  Rory has certainly been a big help.

Thank you for your amazing service.  Mitchell has had two great tutors and his competence with his maths has amazed his classroom teacher.  I have been very happy to recommend you to other parents at school.

We couldn't be happier. Both girls are enjoying the tutoring with Jackie, and feel they are learning something new each week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bribie Island Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Banksia Beach State School.
