I believe the most important thing is to help and guide students through the HSC period, and their choices after the HSC. My strength would be that I can understand what the students feel because I have been enroled into many different tutoring centers. My weakness is that I am a quiet person and I don't talk a lot unless it is with close friends,…

I challenge my students to be free-thinkers and am always open to suggestions from them. Uniqueness and originality are rewarded. Hence, these attributes will allow them to be confident and well…

Good communication. Being able to properly connect with the student is important in building trust so that the student is open and honest about their ability and will ask questions when they don't understand new or existing concepts. Competence in mathematics comes down to practice and I believe that a tutor has to constantly encourage the student to practice and develop this skill. A tutor has to teach the content to the student in an efficient manner so that the student can also gain an interest in maths. A tutor has to be very approachable and has to have good communication…

Just being a support for the student in question. Now, obviously, the first idea to jump to there is academically, and this is super important, of course, but also school is a naturally difficult time for a lot of students for a large variety of reasons, and even if the tutor nor student realize it, being there to help dealing with it is a massive…

To not show them the answer straight away. Push the student to understand what they are doing, and use the knowledge that they have learnt to solve the problem. There is no point in getting a question wrong, looking at the answer and saying 'I will do that next time'. It is essential that they can do the questions individually and confidently. I…

The most important role a tutor can play is showing constant and unconditional support for their student. A tutor should be able to form a dynamic relationship with the student that the student can indulge in for effective motivation, determine the roots of the mathematical concepts they have a weakness with that the teacher couldn't, and find a simple yet interactive solution to strenghtening it. Inside Bankstown AerodromeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ali focused on rates and ratios, applying these to real-world problems, and reviewed algebraic equations using step-by-step examples.

Year 11 student Sarah completed a mock exam covering sketching polynomials and basic graph transformations, then practiced simple permutation and combination questions.

Meanwhile, Year 3 student Mia worked on telling time with phrases like 'to' and 'past', alongside drawing analogue clocks for practice.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's algebra working was described as "messy at times," making it hard to track logic, which impeded understanding and error checking.

A Year 11 student skipped steps in trigonometry proofs and later forgot the approach—"he tends to forget things I teach him (ie. tan/sin/cos)." This recurring omission of steps leads to confusion and loss of method retention.

In Year 10, a rushed approach to graphing led to scratchy lines and confusion when checking answers, undermining accuracy and self-verification.

A Year 8 student avoided drawing diagrams for geometry, leading to longer solution times and increased difficulty visualizing problems.

One senior student's time management faltered on tests; his illegible working "would mark him down for not being able to understand work."

Recent Achievements

One Bankstown Aerodrome tutor noticed a Year 11 student who, after initially struggling with polynomial division, began identifying trends in the questions and now completes homework independently.

In a recent session with a Year 8 student, the tutor saw a real shift: she started asking for help when unsure about domain and range problems, rather than staying quiet as before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to hesitate over reading passages is now pronouncing words with silent letters more accurately and answering comprehension questions without prompting. Last week, he finished an entire set of tricky maths word problems on his own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thank you for your email received today. I am very pleased to report that we are very impressed with Minh and his approach to tutoring our son. Minh is a very responsible and passionate teacher, we feel his enthusiasm will promote Elijah-Taye to the required level in a reasonable time frame.

Thank you for your follow up.  Ty is progressing well and we are all happy with the way things are going (mum, dad and Ty).  Apart from the normal issues, that sometimes he just 'doesn't feel like it' at the beginning of the session, he enjoys the tutoring and is gaining benefits already.  Though Ty has always had quite a good understanding of Maths, the idea of tutoring was to keep him at his best.  He was complaining of not understanding his teacher this year, so the different ways of thinking and and ways of teaching are definitely helping. I am happy with Sheetal and his dedication to his tutoring, even ringing Ty to check his progress before an assessment.  This is not something that I was expecting, but is a welcome addition as I see it helping Ty keep focused as well.

Thanks for the email. We are very happy with Lisa. She is bright and keen and has established a very easy rapport with Xiao. Xiao actually really likes her. We feel very confident that Xiao will continue to make progress with her maths.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Panania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Condell Park High School.
