In my point of view, students and tutors must be like a friends so that tutor can teach and student can learn easily. Similarly, every tutor needs to be prepared before they enter in classroom to teach because it will help tutors to express their views in such a way that students can learn and understand easily. Friendly, Responsible, Teaching in…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is teach them how to approach learning in a way that is self sufficient. Understanding content is important for the time, but ultimately, a tutor should leave the student with the skills to know how to understand content when the tutor is no longer there. I am patient, persistent and…

In my opinion, a physics tutor should know that each student has a different level of learning and understanding concepts. Identifying that level and explaining the concepts on individual basis is essential in order to be unbiased. According to me giving tips and tricks, being patient, good speaker and a listener are some strengths I have that…

The most important thing for me as a physics tutor is to create a sense of interest in the students so that they themself start researching on different areas of the topic and start coming up with their own set of explanations. To do this I believe that a tutor should clear all the basic doubts and alongside this teach the students how to think…

A tutor can customise personalised learning methods for different students, in order to maximise the efficiency of teaching. I consider that a physics tutor can impact a student's passion towards knowledge through his/ her personal enthusiasm for teaching. Another important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide studying strategies…

I had a physics tutor in high school for my VCE studies. I learned that a tutor must be a supportive figure that guides their student with compassion and patience. The demeanor of my tutor relived the stress of studying and gave me the confidence to attempt difficult problems that I would have given up on. Students at any year level will often…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to ask them for constant feedback/questions. Some students are hesitant to ask questions when they are confused, which can easily lead to them not understanding content. Hence, it is important as a tutor to actively make sure that your student actually understands what you are…

I believe the most important thing is to explain in a way that the student understands. For example, with some of my students I would use a lot of analogies to help them get an initial grasp of a concept, whereas with others I will explain the underlying principles of a topic in great detail, as thats what helps that specific student understand a…

I think the most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student isn't to just teach them the content, but instill a certain way of thinking. This way of carrying yourself can be summed up in five words: the relentless pursuit of knowledge. I wish to bring that mindset to the students I tutor so they not only make the most of their learning…

Teaching effectively so that the student can understand the content. It is important to make the students do their own work, rather than doing it for them as they do not learn effectively if the tutor does the work for them. The tutor must also commit to every class and treat every student equally with respect. - My strength are maths and…

One of the most important things would be the environment the tutor and student are in. The more comfortable but slightly stressed-out the students are, the more productive the tutoring session would be. Another essential aspect of tutoring would be the ability for the tutor to deeply understand the concept themselves in order for them to simplify…

Inside PananiaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Lucas worked on converting fractions to decimals and percentages, as well as understanding probability by assigning chances on a number line.

For Year 9, Sarah practised solving quadratic equations both by factorising and using the quadratic formula.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Michael focused on financial maths topics including calculating income, overtime, and commission with real-world examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 mathematics, one student's algebra working was "messy and hard to follow," making it difficult to trace errors—especially when multiplying with negatives.

During a Year 11 timed English task, another student struggled to interpret questions and showed little experience with exam pacing, resulting in incomplete responses.

In a Year 5 session, the urge for perfection led to over-erasing and hiding mistakes instead of correcting them openly; this slowed progress during division drills.

When confidence dipped in Year 4 maths, motivation lagged: "He hesitated on timestables, often pausing mid-question," leaving newer concepts unpracticed as anxiety set in.

Recent Achievements

One Panania tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously mixed up formulas is now reliably using the correct method to calculate gross and net income, even in tricky worded questions.

In Year 8 maths, a student who used to rush through factorising binomials is taking time to check each step—last session, he caught and fixed his own mistake without prompting.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, a Year 4 student who hesitated with times tables now jumps confidently between 3s and 8s by using "jumping points" for recall; she finished her set of multiplication problems with no help needed.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Laoise has been really happy working with Jennifer and we're very pleased with how it's all been going and look forward to working more with her when the new school term resumes.

Grace is very happy to be working with Anthony and her feedback has been positive.

Michelle has been great with Shanique and is very easy to communicate with. Shanique has mentioned she's understanding the benefits of a tutor as she was a little apprehensive at first. They are settling in well.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Panania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Christopher's Catholic Primary School.
